   Utah Bred Futurity
TRICKYS PISTOL
Tby Michael Compton
rickys Pistol didn’t need any hijinks to assert her
superiority over eight rivals in the $50,050 Utah Bred Futurity at Wyoming Downs on July 2. After breaking her maiden with authority by 2-lengths in her trial dash on June 18, the chestnut filly returned to defeat the field in the main event as she joined the rank of stakes winners in just her third lifetime start.
With jockey Cesar Moreno aboard, Trickys Pistol grabbed the lead away from the starting gate in the 350-yard test. She dueled through the lane before edging away late to post a 3/4-length victory over a surging Dangerous Fella. Trickys Pistol—the race favorite and second fastest qualifier—stopped the timer in :17.814 and earned an 87 speed index.
Owned by Duane James Lindley, Trickys Pistol banked the $23,023 winner’s share of the purse which raised her total earnings to $34,453. Bred in Utah by Walter Finder, Trickys Pistol is out of the Maknmoves mare Katies Tricky Moves. She finished 2nd in a trial for the Beehive Futurity at Laurel Brown in May.
Dangerous Fella (Foose-Dangerous Woman)
and jockey Jaquelyn Bobroff closed ground late to finish second for owners Fawna Knight, Gary Allred, Leon Smith, and Tyler Christensen, and trainer Lin Melton. The bay gelding finished third in his trial heat and was the eighth fastest qualifier.
The Ratifier (JR Dynasty Mountain-Easily Ratified), ridden by jockey Jesus Canales, finished third after flashing high speed early. The bay gelding, who finished second in his trial heat and was the sixth fastest qualifier, is owned by Savana Canales and is trained by Jere Brinkerhoff.
Hero Lips (Jess Lips-Secret Hero), GG Ocean King (Oceans Apart-GG Winning Flo), Rayshas
Pink Cartel (Favrotie Cartel-Rayshas Pink Sky), BDR Moon (FDD Moon-RGR Gossip Girl), and Doctor Blake (Docs Best Card-Mi Stoli) followed. First Moon Covenant, and Suite Caroline were scratched.
Hill Country Classic
TEE BRITT
Iby Danny Camp
t has been about a year since Tee Britt has had his
picture taken, but he turned things around in the $19,500 Hill Country Classic at Gillespie County Fair on July 2.
Ridden by Jose Olivo, the gelding broke in second and started to pull away from the field. Halfway through the sprint, Tee Britt secured the lead, crossing the wire 1-length in front.
Trained by Cody McDaniel, they completed the 400 yards in :20.107, while posting a 101 speed index.
Tee Britt brought home the $11,700 winner’s share of the purse for owners Janis Ortiz & Ronny Joe Willis Jr., boosting his total lifetime earnings to $109,470.
With this first stakes victory, Tee Britt has now won four races from 18 starts. He was a runner-up in last year’s Retama Park Derby and was a finalist in the Louisiana Champions Day Derby-RG3.
Lynnette Douget bred Tee Britt out of multiple winner Special Britt, who set a New Track Record in 2012 for 300 yards at the Fair Grounds. She has produced two winners from three starters. Tee Britt is her first stakes winner.
La Inseparable (Inseperable-Cindys First CD) had the lead for a few jumps after the break under Ali Rivera, but had to settle for second for owner/ trainer Jorge Haddad and was able to hold on to pocket second place money. The filly was third in the Miss Sam Houston Stakes earlier this year.
Pronto Alexa (Inseperable-Cindys First CD) gave it a big effort to cross the wire in third place under Nestor Duran for owner/trainer Jorge Haddad. The filly was fifth in the Miss Sam Houston Stakes in June.
Sweet Cali Girl (One Sweet Jess-Sucessful Appeal), Class With Flash (First Moonflash-Cloned With Class), Railroad Jimmy (Freighttrain B-Ha Chi Mama) and TLC Cowboy (The Louisiana Cartel-Pampered Silk) followed.
