The success of Sweet Beduino as a producer gives us an indication that Walk Thru Fire had a great deal of potential on the racetrack. This potential was noted by three famous horsemen that formed a partnership to purchase Walk Thru Fire as a yearling. They were Hall of Fame trainer D. Wayne Lukas, William Farish of Lanes End Farm, and Ed Gaylord II, former owner of the Lazy E Ranch and Arena.
Walk Thru Fire would go to the track
to win only two of his 21 starts - his trial to the 1999 Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity and an allowance race. He would qualify for the Two Million Futurity-G1, the Golden State Futurity-G1, the Primero Del Ano Derby-G2, and the Vandy’s Flash Handicap. He retired with $94,280 in earnings.
Despite the modest race record, Walk Thru Fire has set the racing world on fire by siring foals that have won over $27,000,000. This includes 8 racing champions that have won 14 championships. They are Last To Fire, Higher Fire, Separate Fire, Jess Walking Thru, Flame N Flash, Pink Boots RM, Walk Thru Crystal and Heza Dasha Fire. His sire record represents the influence of the First Down Dash/Beduino nick on the industry.
DASHA FREDA
Dasha Freda was bred by the late Robert A. Gentry, who with his brother Bruce Gentry became racehorse breeders under
the name Gentry Brothers, as well as Robert Gentry breeding runners in his own name. When we look at the money won by the Gentry Brothers, we find that they have bred the earners of $5,641,537. Then, we see
that Robert Gentry is the breeder of money earners that have won $4,587,111.
The Gentry Brothers bought a mare named Cute Kiss in 1971. Cute Kiss was stakes placed in the La Pitahaya Derby with earnings of $25,791. She won four of her nine starts and finished eighth in the 1969 All American Futurity won by Easy Jet. She was owned at that time by Leonard Reeve of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, trained by Clyde Mouton, and ridden in the All American by Richard Strauss.
The sire of Cute Kiss was Go Man Go, the 3-time AQHA World Champion. He
ran 47 races with 27 wins in such stakes as the PCQHRA Futurity and the Autumn Championship. Go Man Go sired runners that earned $7,631,518, with Vim And Vigor ($309,831) being his number one money earner. Go Man Go was sired by Top Deck and he was out of Lightfoot Sis by Very Wise. The dam of Lightfoot Sis was Clear Track by The Dun Horse and she was out of Ella.
The dam of Cute Kiss was Cute Trick, the 1956 AQHA Champion Two-Year-Old Filly. She would run 43 races, finishing first in fifteen with six seconds and four thirds to earn $24,306. Her stakes wins include the PCQHRA Futurity. She won this race the year after Go Man Go won it.
The sire of Cute Trick was the Thoroughbred Be Sure Now. The dam of Cute Trick was Husky by Silver Cord. She was out Circles by Ben Hur by Rainy Day. The mating of Husky with Be Sure Now is reinforced by Sure Now. Sure Now ran 109 races winning 20 of them with 17 seconds and 9 thirds. Sure Now won four stakes, including the Ruidoso Futurity where this full brother to Cute Trick beat Go Man Go.
Cute Trick would produce five foals with four starters that earned three ROM. All
three ROM have a AAA or 90 speed index
or above. Her leading money winner was Suki Tadre by Royal Bar. This mare earned $68,360 winning the Rocky Mountain QH Futurity and the Sunland Park QH Derby. Suki Tadre is the dam of three foals with two ROM, including Jenny Diver who is the dam of Illusivo by Beduino. Illusivo is the winner of $110,757 with wins in the Governor’s Cup Derby-RG3 and the Bandera Downs Derby.
The 1975 foal of Cute Kiss was Easy Kiss by Easy Jet. This Gentry-bred mare would
go on to become the earner of $101,022 without being a stakes winner or stakes placed. She won six of 21 starts. Easy Kiss would produce seven foals with all of them being ROM on the racetrack. She is the dam of one stakes winner and two stakes placed runners. The stakes placed runners are Kiss Me High, second in the Denim N Diamonds Futurity-G1, and Fishin Kisses, second in the Hipodromo de las Americas Stakes.
The stakes winner for Easy Kiss was Gentry Brothers-bred Such An Easy Effort by Special Effort. This mare won the Denim N Diamonds Futurity-G1, El Primera Del Ano Derby-G1, QHBC Distaff Classic-G1, Sunland Park Fall Derby-G3, and Jess Burner Memorial Handicap. She won $496,127.
Such An Easy Effort is the dam of 18 foals with 16 ROM from 17 starters. This includes two stakes winners and three stakes placed runners. The leading money winner for this mare is Deelish, the 1998 AQHA Champion Two-Year-Old Filly and the 2000 AQHA Champion Aged Mare. She won or placed in eight stakes races with wins in the 1998 Dash For Cash Futurity-G1 and the 2000 Go Man Go Handicap-G1. Deelish was sired by First Down Dash.
