Mighty Deck Three Stakes-RG2
APOLLITICAL PENCE
by John Moorehouse
Apollitical Pence started his 2020 campaign right where he left off in 2019—with a victory. The gelding recorded his third straight win in the $68,000 Mighty Deck Three Stakes-RG2, which marked the first stakes race of the 2020 meet at Remington Park.
Trained by Blane Wood, Apollitical Pence broke on top from the 4-post and led by 1-length by the time he entered the stretch. He slowed a bit during the final yards, but still had enough separation to get to the finish line first by a neck.
Ricky Ramirez was in the irons for the victorious 250-yard trip, which was completed in :13.056 and registered a 98 speed index.
Dunn Ranch and Valeriano Racing Stables own Apollitical Pence, who now holds eight wins in 18 total starts and improved his lifetime bankroll to $656,745 with this $37,800 prize. The gelding was named the Champion Three Year Old at Remington last year after winning the 2019 Heritage Place Derby-G3.
Dunn Ranch and Womack Cavender Farms bred Apollitical Pence out of unraced Send City. Apollitical Pence is her first stakes winner.
VF Jedi Returns (High Rate Of Return-Corona Couture) surprised in second place for owner Julio Contreras and trainer Rex Brooks. Juan Pulido drew the riding assignment. EOS A Political Win (Apollitical Jess-Pithia) hit the board in third for Dunn Ranch and Elite Oilfield Services. The Guillermo Valdivia trainee had James Flores aboard.
The remaining order of finish was Eye Eye
Captain (Captain Courage-Eye My Alexis), Fly N
Tell (Coronado Cartel-Strawfly Sister), Lynnder
16 (Apollitical Jess-Tinys Corona Queen), Uptown Dynasty (Mr Jess Perry-Ms Southern Dynasty), SC Money Maker (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Spit Curl Diva) and Suze Returns (High Rate Of Return-Brown Eye Suze). Admiral Sting (Apollitical Jess-Sting Scorpion Sting) false broke, lost his rider, and did not finish.

MI AMOR SECRETO
by John Moorehouse
After finishing second in three graded stakes races at Remington Park in 2019, Mi Amor Secreto ended that trend. Kelly Perez’s homebred gelding prevailed by a neck in the $71,527 Bank of America Remington Park Challenge-G2 on March 29.
Trained by Marcos Carrizales, Mi Amor Secreto broke 2nd from the 2-post and was running a close sec- ond going into the stretch, but hit the finish line first by a neck under Jose Alvarez. Mi Amor Secreto completed the 440-yard trip in :21.392, posting a 97 speed index.
In making his 2020 debut, Mi Amor Secreto returned to the track after appearing in 7 stakes events the prior year. That included a win in The Downs
at Albuquerque Fall Championship, which marked the gelding’s 1st stakes victory. This 2nd stakes win improved Mi Amor Secreto’s overall record to 5(3)- 7(6)-1 from 19 starts, with the $32,903 first-place payout pushing his overall earnings to $478,765.
Mi Amor Secreto remains the only winner out of Streakin In Secret, a winning 2004 mare, who was 4th in a 2007 $60,000 maiden distaff at Manor Downs.
Fenian Faith (Apollitical Jess-Three Green Leaves) finished second for owners Lloyd J. Yother and J. Garvan Kelly. Dee Keener is the trainer and Raul Valenzuela drew the riding assignment.
Viva Le Don (Rock Solid Jess-Viva Arriba) was elevated to finish third after Valiant Tiberias was disqualified. Rockin J Running Horses owns Viva Le Don, a Tammy Johnson trainee who had Cody Smith in the irons.
Kowboy Jim (FDD Dynasty-Counting On You), Charlies Fury (Furyofthewind-Jess Charlena), This Is a Deal Too (Dealagame-Lady Lilia), Five Bar Stoli (Five Bar Cartel-Stoli Angel), T Velocity (Apollitical Jess-Wave Over Phoebe), Valiant Tiberias (Valiant Hero-American Feature) and PYC Jess Bite Mydust (Apollitical Jess-Paint Or More) completed the order of finish.
Decketta Stakes-G2
CURLS HAPPY WAGON
by Danny Camp
Curls Happy Wagon was a happy camper indeed as she led the field to the finish line in the $54,720 Decketta Stakes-G2 at Remington Park on March 21.
The mare loaded first, broke first and finished first. Jockey Jorge Torres had the good sense to
sit quiet as a shadow and know his mount was in charge. They were never headed and crossed the line 3/4-length to the good in 17.259, which was good for a 98 speed index.
Racing for owners/breeders Michael Pohl & Martin Stacy, she brought home the $33,622 first place check, which boosted her total earnings to $238,474 and her race record now stands at 14-7(3)- 2(2)-1(1). Trained by Stacy Charette-Hill, Curls Happy Wagon won the Decketta Stakes last year as well as the Canterbury Park Distaff Challenge.
Pohl and Stacy bred Curls Happy Wagon out
of Eye A Spit Curl Girl, who won the Two Rivers Stakes-G3 (twice) and Skip Zimmerman Memorial. She has produced 100% winners from two starters. Curls Happy Wagon is her first stakes winner.
First N Sassy (First Down Dash-Jess Sass Me) finished second under Jose Alvarez for owner Triple Enterprises Inc. and trainer Marcos Carrizales.
Diamond And A Half (First Moonflash-Cuz Shez Famous) and Carlos Guillen Chacon was third for Antonio Gomez and trainer Jorge Hernandez.
Jess B Glory (Mr Jess Perry-Glory Rider), Lynnder 16 (Apollitical Jess-Tinys Corona Queen), First Of 15 (Apollitical Jess-Tinys Corona Queen), Suze Returns (High Rate Of Return-Brown Eye Suze), Yashira Vista (Brz) (One Famous Eagle- Strawberry Cartel), America Rules (Corona Cartel-Allamericandreamgirl), Conquering Marie (Coronado Cartel-Illegal Fireworks), Splendid Cause (Apollitical Jess-Answer The Dream) and Eye Eye Captain (Captain Courage-Eye My Alexis) com- pleted the order of finish.
