Mr Jet Moore Stakes-RG2
HOOKED ON A WIN
by John Moorehouse
Hooked On A Win was the biggest longshot of the field in the $59,000 Mr Jet Moore Stakes-RG2 at Remington Park on April 2, but the five-year-old
gelding was the first horse to cross the finish line. Hooked On A Win went wire-to-wire in this
350-yard out. He broke on top from the 2-post, led by a 1/2-length at the first call and maintained that advantage as he reached the stretch. The gelding con- tinued to gain distance during the final yards, hit- ting the wire first by 3/4-length. The stakes-winning trip took :17.434, posting a 93 speed index.
This marked Hooked On A Win’s third victory in stakes company, joining the 2018 Golden Driller Stakes at Fair Meadows and last year’s version of the Boyd Morris Memorial at Remington Park.
Regina Laymon owns Hooked On A Win, who
is trained by Kenny Laymon and had Juan Pulido aboard. The Laymons also produced the runner-up in the Mr Jet Moore, JK Wildcat Red, a 26-1 underdog.
JK Running Horses LLC bred Hooked On A Win out of Kansas Bred Derby winner Pretty Girl Kate. She has produced 100% money earners from eight starters, including I Cant Help It, who won the Fair Meadows Maturity and finished third in the OQHRA Fall Classic Stakes. Hooked On A Win is her second stakes winner and top earner.
Kevin Camacho rode JK Wildcat Red (One Dashing Eagle-Shaky Girl) to his second-place finish. Tough To Bee (Apollitical Jess-Peppermint Seis) hit the board in third for Paragon Farms LLC. The gelding is trained by Blane Wood, who had four horses in the field. Cody Wainscott was aboard.
Apollitical Pence (Apollitical Jess-Send City), Uptown Dynasty (Mr Jess Perry-Ms Southern Dynasty), Watah Flash (First Moonflash-Lotawatah), SC Money Maker (PYC Paint Your Wagon-
Spit Curl Diva) and Sam Crow (Valiant Hero- Bourbonstreetchick) completed the order of finish.
Pauls Valley Handicap-G2
LET THERE BE SOUND
by John Moorehouse
Make it five straight wins for Let There Be Sound. The six-year-old gelding extended a winning streak with his commanding 2 1/4-length
victory in the $42,980 Pauls Valley Handicap-G2 at Remington Park on April 2.
With Stormy Smith aboard, Let There Be Sound led at every call of the 870-yard race. He broke on top from the inside starting gate, led by a neck at
the first call, opened up a 1 1/2-length lead entering the stretch, then continued to pull away to win by a 2 1/4-length margin. The stakes-winning trip took :44.733, registering a 103 speed index.
Louis and Corrine Howard own Let There Be Sound, who now holds eight victories in 23 lifetime starts. The $25,338 prize from this event boosted his total earnings to $198,279. The gelding’s current win streak includes four stakes victories, three of them in New Mexico. In a Stallionesearch article, trainer John Stinebaugh said, “I’ve had four distance Champions and I do believe this one is the best.” The gelding now has eight wins in 23 starts, with all eight of those victories coming at the 870 distance.
Black Oak Farm bred Let There Be Sound out of winning Thoroughbred mare Sakakawea. Let There Be Sound is her only starter.
Rock About It (Rock Solid Jess-Not Sable
Shes Rose) finished second for Rockin J Running Horses. The Tammy Johnson trainee had Travis Cunningham in the irons. Rockin J Running Horses and Johnson also produced the third-place finisher, Jess A Hilbily Bone (Rock Solid Jess-Imaginiff), who had Josh Romero aboard.
Ms Esther (Afrashad TB-Tres Down The Cash), J Boy A (Jess Zoomin-Mighty Classy Lassy), Petes Favorite (Pete’s Wonder TB-Jiggle It Around), Spit Prize Corona (Spit Curl Jess-Fast Prize Corona) and Flight Force (One Famous Eagle-Modice) completed the order of finish.
Leverne Perry Memorial Div. 1
FANTASTICAZOOM JR
by John Moorehouse
Make it five straight wins, and counting, for Fantasticazoom Jr. J&J Stables LLC’s four- year-old colt continues to be downright fantastic,
extending a winning streak with his victory in the $15,000 Leverne Perry Memorial Stakes Div. 1 at Louisiana Downs on March 14.
The Jose Carrizales trainee broke well from the 2-post and dueled with Game Overtime for the entirety of the 400 yards. Fantasticazoom Jr proved to be the best down the stretch, outnodding his rival to hit the wire first by a neck. Ricardo Hernandez, Jr., the colt’s regular rider, was aboard for a :19.828 run that registered a 94 speed index.
Fantasticazoom Jr now holds seven all-time victories in 12 starts, with the bulk of that win total coming during this current streak, which began with an allowance held Oct. 19 at Evangeline Downs. This marked his third straight win in a stakes race, all during the abruptly concluded 2020 meet at Louisiana Downs: the Harrah’s Dash and the Swift Stakes were the others. That recent stretch of suc- cesses made Fantasticazoom Jr the overwhelming favorite at the betting window.
Summer Run Inc., bred Fantasticazoom Jr out of lightly raced Zoomshakalaka. She has produced four winners from six starters, including stakes placed Polar Express. Fantasticazoom Jr is her first stakes winner.
Game Overtime (Fast Prize Jordan-Good Game Meg) finished second for owner Rosendo Valdez. The Rosendo Valdez, Jr. trainee had David Alvarez aboard. One Fast Perry (Fast Prize Jordan-De Bell Perry) finished third under Everardo Rodriguez for owner Eddie L. Harrison and trainer Lanny Keith.
Texaslittlebro (Mr Ottyes-Lovely Legs), Jess JJ Watt AW (Mr Jess Perry-Allurist), Little Toy Guns (First Prize Doc-Strikeabye Baby) and Runaways Ace (Ocean Runaway-Dulce Bye N Bye) completed the order of finish.
