BPS Jumpn Frisco has qualified to two major derbies already this year, finishing third in both the Grade 1, $248,000 Heritage Place Derby and the Remington Park Oklahoma-bred Derby. He will try to turn things around in the All American Derby, which he enters as the fastest qualifier after winning the first of 10 trials by a neck. BPS Jumpn Frisco is owned by his breeder, Bill Price, of Thackerville, Oklahoma, and is a half-brother to Champion A Real Man. He is one of two All American Derby qualifiers for the trainer-jockey combination of Eddie Willis and Jimmy Brooks. BPs Jumpn Frisco was also second in the Mr Jet Moore Handicap earlier this year, and last year was a finalist in the Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity-G1 and third in the Easy Jet Stakes-RG3.
Linda Tee Fire posted the second-fastest qualifying time of :21.324 to the All American Derby by finishing second to BPS Jumpn Frisco in the first trial. The Walk Thru Fire gelding was a finalist in the Texas Classic Futurity-G1 last year, and has made all of his 2012 starts in derby tri- als at Ruidoso, although this is his first qualifying effort. Double Eagle Ranch and Buena Suerte Ranch of Roswell, New Mexico, own Linda Tee Effort, who is trained by Mike Joiner and was ridden by G.R. Carter Jr. M. Smith and Charlie and Dixie Patterson bred the gelding, who is a half-brother to Grade 2 winner Jess Tee Off out of the winning Mr Jess Perry mare Less Linda Tee.
A dead-heat in the third trial resulted in co-third fastest qualifiers Hez Our Secret and A Toss Up. Originally purchased for $110,000 as a yearling at the Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale, Hez Our Secret ran fourth in the Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity-G1 and qualified to the Rainbow Futurity-G1 as a 2-year-old. Owned by Johnny Trotter, of Hereford, Texas, Hez Our Secret is trained by Blane Wood and was ridden by Ricky Ramirez. Bred by Vessels Stallion Farm and sired by First Down Dash, Hez Our Secret is out of Secret Separation, a half-sister to 2006 All American Futurity winner and up-and-coming sire No Secrets Here.
A Toss Up was supplemented to the All American trials for $50,000, and made good on that investment by qualifying to the finals with the co-third fastest time of :21.383. Bred by James Sills and owned by Sills and Abel Flores, A Toss Up has already won three stakes races in 2012—the Sooner State Stakes-RG2, Eastex Handicap-G2, and Remington Park Oklahoma-Bred Derby. He is one of two All American Derby qualifiers for the trainer-jockey team of Eddie Willis and Jimmy Brooks. Sired by Sweet First Down, A Toss Up is out of Shake Cartel, a stakes finalist and track record setter who has also produced stakes-placed winners Miss Okey and Cartel Dynasty.
Bills Last is one of three 2011 All American Futurity finalists to qualify for this year’s All American Derby. After finishing ninth in the All American Futurity last year, Bills Last has returned strong as a 3-year-old to finish third in the Animas Stakes-G3 and race in both the Ruidoso and Rainbow derbies. He is the fifth-fastest qualifier to the 440-yard All American Derby with a time of :21.324. A gelded son of Shazoom and Crystalinas, Bills Last was originally purchased for $47,000 as a yearling. Bred by Jerry Windham, he is a full brother to Grade 1 win- ner and sire Azoom. Owned by Paul Blanchard of Albuquerque, Bills Last is trained by Paul Jones and was ridden by Rodrigo Aceves.
