Gordon Mobley Futurity
NACHITO CORONEL
by Michael Compton
Nachito Coronel, the undefeated winner of the $181,900 Gordon Mobley Futurity at Indiana Grand on June 16, looks like a star in
the making for owner Patricia Del Rocio Lopez and breeder/trainer Ricardo Martinez.
Now perfect in three lifetime starts, Nachito Coronel showed speed early in the 300-yard dash, grabbing the lead at the break from the 8-post. With Sergio
Ramirez in the saddle,
Nachito Coronel stayed in
the lead throughout, crossing
the wire 3/4-length in front.
The team stopped the timer in a new stakes-record time of :15.264, just short
of Beach Bum Eddie’s track record of :15.246. The final time earned a career-best 105 speed index for the gelding.
“I feel very good about this race and I’m very happy,” said winning rider
Jaguar Rocket Futurity
DADDYS MOE
by Michael Compton
The victory by Daddys Moe in the $129,600 Jaguar Rocket Futurity at Indiana Grand on June 16, carried special meaning to owner/ breeder Rose Bode.
“This was the last horse that my dad, Loren Schwade, was able to see before he passed away in 2016,” explained Bode. “He couldn’t walk in the straw, so he came to the window of the stall and looked in at this baby. I have a photo of him looking through at the foal.
“My dad always called me ‘Moe,’ and I thought because of the connection to this horse, a perfect name for him would be Daddys Moe,” Bode continued. “What a perfect Father’s Day gift to win this race. My daddy would be so proud.”
Breaking from the far outside in the 10-horse field, Daddys Moe and jockey Jose Beltran grabbed the lead after the start of the 300-yard test.
Sergio Ramirez through Ricardo Martinez, who acted as an interpreter.
With the $100,045 winner’s share from this victory, Nachito Coronel boosted his
total lifetime bankroll to $111,595 and is perfect in three career starts - all at Indiana Grand. The sorrel gelding first won a 300-yard maiden race by 1-length on May 9. Then, he
scored a win in the June 2 trials to the Gordon Mobley Futurity and topped the quali- fying ladder to the finals.
According to Martinez, Nachito Coronel was not a standout in his early training. “He gave us little problems at Remington,” he said. “We had him in some schooling races and he did not do very well. We brought him to Indiana and he was the same way in his first schooling race. But in his second schooling race, he
won it. I think he just needed some time and he’s starting to figure it all out now.”
Nachito Coronel is out of 5-time winner Sassy Shaelan. She has produced 100% money earners from 2 starters. Nachito Coronel is her first stakes winner and top earner.
Abe (Jazz Be First-Magics Born Illusion) were 2nd under Aron Hunt for owner/trainer Randy Thompson. Cruisin The Beach (Escondido Beach- Chicks Sweet Donna) & Giovani Vazquez-Gomez were 3rd for owners Glen & Katie Miller and trainer Anthony Cunningham. Followed by Beach Denali (Escondido Beach-Jess Alive Bully), Famous Cucuy (Jazz Be First-Famous Washer), Dynastys Prim Rose (First Dinastia-La Joya Miracle), Above The Brimm (Brimmstone-CSC Cinnamon Toast), Stoneburner (Brimmstone-Luella Joy), Rocket All Out (Escondido Beach-Botticelli Shake) and Eyem Yur Sixes (Sixes Liaison-Eyem Yur Huckleberry).
The pair maintained a narrow lead through the lane and edged clear late to win by 1/2-length. “I love this horse,” said Beltran. “He is so
smart. When you take him to the track, he knows what he’s doing. He can break fast and if I just smooch to him a little, he takes off. He loves to run.”
Daddys Moe covered the distance in a new stakes record time of :15.394, eclipsing the pre- vious record of :15.524 set in 2014 by Stinkin
Rich. The clocking earned a 99 speed index for trainer Randy Smith, who saddled the top two finishers.
Now a winner in two of three starts in his young career, Daddys Moe is increased
his bankroll to $77,230. His previous win was in the June 2 Jaguar Rocket Trials, where he was the fastest qualifier.
Bode bred Daddys Moe out of lightly raced Prairie Fire. She has produced 100%
winners from four starters, including stakes winner Foose On Fire. Daddys Moe is her second stakes winner and top money earner.
Coronados Quicksilver (Coronado Cartel- Zoomin Zoey B) finished second under James Flores for owner Gordon Timm and trainer Randy Smith. Hooked On Jordan (Fast
Prize Jordan-Hooked On Laveaux) and Luis Guerrero came in third for owner Jeannette Hoover and trainer Ron Raper.
Rarely A Tres (Tres Seis-Rarely Makes
It Home), Jesslikethat (One Sweet Jess- Lovemelikethat), RK The Magician (Four Six Jess-RK Quick Version), Yadi 1 (Wave Carver- Shez So Special), SS Coronado (Coronado Cartel- Streaking Stitches), Get Used To Me (Corona Cartel-Eye Popping) and One Smart Jess (One Sweet Jess-First Smart Stride) completed the order of finish.
