Bettors selected Lightemupwithcharm and Bubba Mallard as the top two choices in the June 8 Vals Fortune Stakes-RG2 for Louisiana-bred 3-year-olds
and up at Delta Downs. They certainly knew which horses to back, as those two battled each other for the lead throughout the 400 yard contest.
Second-choice Bubba Mallard got the jump on Lightemupwithcharm, but jockey Everardo Rodriguez put favored Lightemupwithcharm right into the race. At the wire, Lightemupwithcharm was best late and defeated Bubba Mallard by 1/2-length in :19.468 for
a 101 speed index. Lightemupwithcharm now has a record of 16-5(1)-2-2(1) and the $36,000 winner’s share of the Vals Fortune takes his earnings to $134,820.
Lightemupwithcharm races for owner Saul Dorado, and Martin Trejo trains the 4-year-old gelding, who was an allowance winner last year and 3rd in the LQHBA Beeeders’ Derby. Dorado bought Lightemupwithcharm for $4,000 at the 2015 LQHBA Yearling Sale from the consignment of Jumonville Farms, who bred Lightemupwithcharm in Louisiana from homebred Grace Filled Charm. The mare, a 3-time winner, has produced 3 winners from 6 starters.
John Hamilton rode Bubba Mallard (Sir Runaway Dash-Miss Mallard) to 2nd for Salvador Marquez & trainer Michael Taylor. Bubba Mallard was 3rd in this year’s Louisiana Purchase Stakes. JRS Coronas Shadow (Coronas Leaving You-Shadow Of Colors) finished
3rd under David Alvarez for Gary Hartstack & trainer Kenneth Roberts. JRS Coronas Shadow won the 2017 Delta Downs Louisiana Bred Derby-RG3 and has placed in 3 other stakes. Followed by Heza Louisiana Dash (Heza Fast Dash-Eyejesslovelouisiana), Perrys Jumpn Beduino (Jumpn-Perry Five), Strong Guns (Strong Hope-Gunslinger Girl), One Hot Flame (Fast Prize Dash-Rup Shakin), BJS Magic Wings (Dragon Wings- Magic Shine) & Pop Rocket Jess (Jess Pop My Rocket- Mita Jenny). LDN Jessasaltydog was scratched.
Higheasterjet Handicap-G3
MYST FIT

Myst Fit notched his second stakes win in the $50,000 Higheasterjet Handicap-G3 at Ruidoso Downs on June 30.
Myst Fit broke from the 8-post on the lead with Raul Ramirez Jr. aboard. They stayed there through- out the race, crossing the wire 1/2-length ahead of a late charging Tough To Bee.
Myst Fit completed the 350 yards in :17.488, earning a 96 speed index.
With the first place check worth $30,000, the gray gelding has now earned a total of $216,421 for owners Newman Cattle Co. & Bobby Simmons and trainer G. Blane Wood.
Myst Fit now has a race record of 6(2)-2-2 from 14 outs. The gelding won the 2017 Oklahoma Derby-G3 at Remington Park. In 2017, he qualified to the Rainbow Derby-G1 and the All American Derby-G1 and was a finalist in both races. He was also a finalist in the Remington Park Invitational Championship-G1 earlier this year.
Steve D. Burns DVM bred Myst Fit out of winner Mystifying. She has produced 2 winners from 3 start- ers. Myst Fit is her first stakes winner and top earner.
Also trained by Wood, Tough To Bee (Apollitical Jess-Peppermint Seis) came in second under Ricky Ramirez for owner Paragon Farm LLC.
Born To B Bad (Freighttrain B-Dosvedanya) and Agustin Silva finished third for owners Melissa Slayton & Cody Bowling and trainer Tammy Johnson.

Adequan RUI Derby Challenge
MI AMOR SECRETO

Fastest qualifier from trials, Mi Amor Secreto ral- lied to win the $68,220 Adequan Ruidoso Derby Challenge at Ruidoso Downs on June 30. Ridden
by Santos Carrizales and racing against a reported 10-mph head wind, Mi Amor Secreto went 400 yards in :20.102 with a 3/4-length winning margin. Marcos Carrizales saddled the homebred gelding for owner Kelly Perez.
Mi Amor Secreto was coming off a 1-length vic- tory in the second of four Adequan Ruidoso Derby Challenge trials on June 15.
Mi Amor Secreto has now won three of six starts. In addition to earning the $31,382 winner’s share of the purse to boost his bankroll to $50,660, the chest- nut gelding landed a berth in the Adequan Derby Challenge Championship-G3 at Los Alamitos on Nov. 17. Meanwhile, Mi Amor Secreto will be pointed to the All American Derby-G1 trials on Aug. 19.
“He’s still growing and maturing,” said Perez of Mi Amor Secreto. “I think he’ll prefer 440 yards.”
Perez bred Mi Amor Secreto out of winner Streakin In Secret. She has produced 100% money earners from two starters. Mi Amor Secreto is her first stakes winner and top money earner.
Second-fastest qualifier Corona Ranger (Corona Cartel-Azoom Babe) and Agustin Silva finished second for owner Vanessa Bartoo and trainer John Stinebaugh. Third fastest qualifier Reliance Ranches LLC’s SC Vapor Trail (Corona Cartel-Spit Curl Diva) ran third under Stormy Smith for trainer Mike Robbins. Walcott (Tee Cos-Jess Maganette), Vallerro (Valiant Hero-Perrys Queen Bug), Seminole Senator (Louisiana Senator-Overeasy Annie), Famous Joker (One Famous Eagle-Ms Pilot Point), Senator Fast Jack (Louisiana Senator-Shezafasterthanjack), JD Wagon Boss (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Elly Mae)
and Feature Me Gorgeous (Giorgino-Rebas Feature) completed the order of finish.
