gives Genuine Strawfly a breeding pattern of 2 X 3 to Special Effort and a pedigree that is highly influenced by the blood of Teddy.
As said earlier, one of the mares the Draper’s added to their breeding program was Super Perla Negra. She is a daughter multiple stakes finalist Super Duper Couper ($73,131), who placed first, second or third in nine of his 14 starts including a second in the Rainbow Derby-G1. Super Duper Couper has a limited sire record of 15 starters and 13 ROM from 28 foals with cumulative earnings of $667,110.
The sire of Super Duper Couper is Coup De Kas, a Thoroughbred that the Drapers are fond of in their pedigrees. Coup De
Kas earned $88,220 with 14 starts and five wins, including in the Youthful Stakes. Coup De Kas sired Quarter Horse runners with earnings of $4,565,837, including 240 ROM and 21 stakes winners. His leading earner is Develop A Plan ($358,558).
Coup De Kas is by Kaskaskia by Catullus by Roman, who was widely known for
his sprinting ability winning such races
as the 5 1/2-furlong Hyde Park Stakes,
the 6-furlong Chicago Handicap, and the 6-furlong Toboggan Handicap. Roman is by Sir Gallahad III, a full brother to Bull Dog. Catallus is out of Secret Story by Spy Song. The dam of Secret Story is Belle Histoire,
a daughter of La Troienne by Teddy TB. Kaskaskia is out of Cymbidium by Bimelech. The dam of Bimelech is La Troienne by Teddy.
The dam of Coup De Kas is Mor Coup, who is out of Re Bley by Bley, who is out of Bubbley by Bull Lea by Bull Dog by Teddy. The dam of Re Bley is Recoup by Revoked, who is out of Galla Belle by Sir Gallahad III by Teddy TB. This gives Coup De Kas a breeding pattern of 5 X 6 X 5 X 7 X 7 to Teddy, making him an outcross in the scheme of things.
MORE TEDDY
There is more Teddy in the pedigree of Jenuine Joy. Wendy Feature, the dam of Super Duper Couper, is by Jerry Crow TB.
A look at pedigree of Jerry Crow will show he has a 5 X 5 X 6 X 7 breeding pattern to Teddy. Three Ofeature is the dam of Wendy Feature and she is out of Eightohthree, who is sired by Three Oh’s, a son of Oh My Oh by Spotted Bull, by Bull Dog, by Teddy. Eightohthree has at least one more cross to Teddy with her dam Lady Bar Eight by Eight Again, whose dam is Late Again who is out of Lay Off by Sun Teddy by Teddy.
Red Tag Sale is the dam of Super Perla Negra. She gets some Teddy blood through her sire Young Beduino. Young Beduino carries Teddy blood through his sire Beduino TB. Jo-
Ann-Cat, the dam of Beduino, has a breeding pattern of 5 X 5 X 3 to Teddy. Her sire Rejected is by Revoked, who is out of Galla Belle by Sir Gallahad III. The dam of Rejected is Sable Scarf by Sir Gallahad III. Quick Eye, the dam of Jo- Ann-Cat, is out of Eye To Eye by Teddy.
The blood of Teddy flows through Jenuine Joy coming from some great individuals and that takes us to the question—How does the Teddy blood appear in Imperial Eagle through his sire?
Imperial Eagle set the track on fire in late 2016 with not only his All American Futurity-G1 win, but also his wins in the Southwest Juvenile Championship-G1 and Sunland Park Winter Juvenile Invitational.
One Famous Eagle is by Mr Jess Perry, a stallion that needs no introduction. He is by Streakin La Jolla by Streakin Six. The dam of Streakin La Jolla is Bottoms Up by Raise Your Glass TB, who has two crosses to Teddy. The dam of Bottoms Up is La Jolla by St Bar TB, who is out of Belle St Mary by Spotted Bull. The dam of Mr Jess Perry is Scoopie Fein by Sinn Fein by Three Oh’s, who is out of Oh My Oh by Spotted Bull TB.
The dam of One Famous Eagle is One Famous Lady by Chicks Beduino by Beduino TB. We have seen that Beduino gets his Teddy blood through his dam Jo-Ann-Cat, who is double bred to Teddy. One Slick Cookie is the dam of One Famous Lady and she gets her Teddy blood through Find A Buyer TB, the dam Dash For Cash, One Slick Cookie’s sire. Pfeffernusse, the dam of One Slick Cookie, gets some Teddy blood through her sire Tiny’s Gay by Tiny Watch by Anchor Watch TB and out of Clabber Tiny, both carrying the blood of Teddy.
JESS SEND CANDY
Jess Send Candy was bred by the late Carl Pevehouse and is still owned by his family
at PV Quarter Horse Farms LLC. Jess Send Candy had five starters in 2016, including four stakes winners in Send Me This Wagon, This Candys Awesome, Honeymoon Candy and Jess Good Candy, as her path to the Broodmare of the Year title. Her list of 2016 stakes winners was headed by Jess Good Candy, winner of two 2016 stakes races including the Ruidoso Derby-G1.
Carl Pevehouse took an interest in racehorses as a young man and that interest carried him through his life. He liked to watch them run, but he liked to watch
the ones that he bred run even more. The Pevehouse breeding program is built through a line of horses that today we know as the runners with “candy” in their name.
Carl told Stacy Pigott in a 2012 Speedhorse article titled “Faith, Heart And A Little Candy” how he came to use “candy” as a part of naming of foals. “I had a horse running in Louisiana at that time named
I Got Style,” he said. “I was in a race at Delta Downs and I was on the slope at the finish line and there was a big guy standing down in front of me. Now, this fella stood 6’3” or 6’4” and probably weighed 300 pounds. When they opened that gate, here they come. The horse he was betting on
was named See The Lady Go. And he was jumping up and hollering, ’Come on See The Lady Go! See The Lady Go, baby! Send me candy! Send me candy!’ He just repeated it, and he’d jump every so often. We were laughing at him and trying to watch the race
Carl Pevehouse, with daughter Cheryl (left) and wife Rozella (right), built a line of runners that carry “candy” in their name, including 2016 Broodmare of the Year Jess Send Candy and three of the mare’s four 2016 stakes winners.
