Dash For Cash Derby-G3
TELLEREYEMATTHEBAR
by John Moorehouse
Brian Stroud, the trainer of Tellereyematthebar, said he did not have enormous expectations heading into the Dash For Cash Derby-G3.
However, a driving finish propelled the sopho- more gelding to an upset victory in $235,600 race held Oct. 8 at Lone Star Park. But, the homebred by James Hrabovsky and Joye Leann Nalls paid off handsomely for his connections, bringing in a $94,240 payday,
as well as for wagerers; he was a 20-1 underdog at post time.
“He qualified fourth-fastest and we thought if he really
ran an exceptional race, he’d come back and finish fourth or maybe fifth,” Stroud said. “He far exceeded what we thought.”
A promising rookie cam- paign for Tellereyematthebar ended abruptly when he pulled up after winning his trial for the Juvenile Challenge at Sam Houston last October. He was
diagnosed with a suspensory injury and did not return to competition until May. “Suspensory problems, those are just long, dragged-out injuries,” Stroud said. “They take a while.”
In this race, Tellereyematthebar broke mid- pack & emerged from a crowd at the stretch to win by a head. The 440-yards took :21.658 for a 90 speed index. Jockey Cesar Gomez was rid-
ing Tellereyematthebar for the 1st time. Ivan Carnero, his regular rider this season, had been sidelined due to injury.
“I thought he did an excellent job, for the first time sitting on him,” Stroud said of Gomez. “Most of the credit should be given to my team. I have a good team of grooms- men, led by Ricardo Aguirre. I’m stabled in three different tracks so I have to depend on them to do a lot of the work.”
Tellereyematthebar has 4
wins in 9 starts with $111,355 earned. He is the 1st stakes winner out of Eye Shine Special., who has 6 foals/starters, including 2 stakes-placed. Stroud said Tellereyematthebar will rest before the Evangeline Downs Derby trials in Nov.ember.
Politically Corrupt (Apollitical Jess-Adorable Deer) was 2nd under Manuel Gutierrez for Double H Racing Investment LLC & trainer Jose Sanchez. Kid Can Dash (Down N Dash-Quickid Perry) was 3rd under Francisco Calderon for
Pete Scarmardo & trainer Leon Bard. Followed by TLC Dale (The Louisiana Cartel-Halies Dale), Especial Cartel (The Louisiana Cartel-I Be Dazzlen), Shez A Hot Valentine (Walk Thru Fire-Double Down Baby), My Moment Of Fame (Jumpn Chic-Moment Of Epiphany), Octonaut (First Down Dash-Trick And Fun TB), Woop Dee Doo (Good Reason SA-Jess Racy Eyes) and Patriot Pearl (Game Patriot-First Prize Pearl).

Namehimastreaker New Mexico Classic Championship-RG1
KLASSIC STRAWFLY
by Danny Camp
Competing for the fourth time in the Namehimastreaker New Mexico Classic Championship-RG1, Klassic Strawfly took the
win in the $170,000 race at Zia Park on Oct. 30. With Alejandro Medellin aboard for the
440 yards, the pair broke mid-pack from the six-gate. Medellin rode well to surge past the field, taking the win by a head margin.
They stopped the clock at :21.618 to earn a 96 speed index. The geld-
ing earned the $102,000
winner’s share of the purse
that boosted his earnings to $564,381. The New Mexico Hi-Point Aged Gelding has won his last five outs in a row. He is owned by Yaneth Cabera and trained by Ernest Fennell.
Klassic Strawfly was
bred in New Mexico by Ron Stephens out of graded stakes placed winner A Classic
Song. She has produced 100% money earners from six starters, including Grade 3 finalist La Vispa. Klassic Strawfly is her top earner, winning or placing in seven stakes events.
“This is an unbelievable horse, he is an amazingly sound horse for being ten years old,” Fennell said. He’s had 93 outs so far and is still sound. This is a kind of horse everybody would like to train. He has a disposition like
a pony horse. He knows his job and is ready when called upon. He’s easy to gallop in the morning, a good gate horse, and good in the pad- dock. Any 10-year-old kid could walk this horse around in the morning. I’m just glad to get to train him.” When asked about the future, Ernest added, “We are going to wait until Sunland to start him again. There are a couple of stakes that will fit him.”
Seeyalateralligator (Winners Version-Stars In My Eye) finished second for owners Ezra Elton Lee and Jason T. Giles. Wesley Giles is the conditioner. L Martinez was in the saddle.
Osbaldo (Jesse James Jr-Shes So Blazin) finished third for owner Hubaldo Solis and trainer Ernest Fennell. Ricky Ramirez was in the irons.
Cinco Menudos (Jesse James Jr-Uno Menudo), Booyah Bay (Brookstone Bay-
Jess Brenda), Mad About The Moon (First Moonflash-Streaking Power), Whatever Bill (Southern Corona-Edge Of Elegance), Fire Stones (Brookstone Bay-Silver Impulse), Hot Authorization (Corona Caliente-Authorized Love) and Jess Got Issues (Jesse James Jr-Yo Mamma Got Issues) completed the order of finish. Dungarees Version and Major Bites were scratched.
