ROMAN SOLDIER CD

Sent to post at odds of 17-1 in a full field of 10, James Marquez’s Roman Soldier CD responded with a 1/2-length victory in the $50,000 Lovington Stakes-G2 at Zia Park on Nov. 5.
Roman Soldier CD covered 400 yards in :19.724 while earning an 89 speed index and his first career stakes win. Sergio Becerra, Jr. rode the colt for trainer Antoinette Gonzales.
A resident of Fort Stockton, Texas, Marquez acquired Roman Soldier CD from breeder Cynthia Dick for $17,000 at the 2014 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale. The colt is one of five winners from seven start- ers foaled by Famous Phoebe, who won the 2004 New Mexican Spring Futurity-RG1 at Sunland Park. Roman Soldier CD’s third dam, Dashing Phoebe,
was the sport’s Champion 2-Year-Old Filly in 1985 and Champion Sophomore Filly the following year. Raced exclusively in New Mexico, Roman Soldier CD has won four of nine outs and has banked $123,160. His resume includes a fourth-place finish in last year’s Rainbow Futurity-G1 at Ruidoso Downs.
Alis Jumpn (Jumpn-Gloria In Red) ran second for owner Eloy Humberto Pena. Jose Enriquez rode the stakes winning 6-year-old mare for trainer Adam Tapia.
TF Cajun Cartel (Corona Cartel-Dashadee), the 8-5 favorite, finished third. Ruben Calderon rode the Grade 2-winning 4-year-old colt for the Cajun Partnership and trainer Fernando Carrete.
Memphis D Nasty (FDD Dynasty-Jess A Cartel), BP Hit The Bigtime (Cartel Success-JA Fast Lady), Significant Runner (Foose-Jess Significant), Six Episodes (Tres Seis-Eye Of An Episode), Fine Oak Corona (Coronas Prospect-Like A Fine Oak), Sprinster (FDD Dynasty-Dash Of Perry), and Carters Last Straw (Carters Cartel-Hawks Dancing Straw) completed the order of finish. Easily Bono and Pickled On Corona were scratched.

CORONAS BOY

Coronas Boy, campaigned by Victor M. Diaz of Sunland Park, New Mexico, was a prompt 4-5 favorite in the New Mexico 870 Championship at
Zia Park on Oct. 30.
Ridden by Alejandro Medellin for trainer
Martin Orona, Jr., Coronas Boy covered 870 yards in :45.111 and earned a season-best 98 speed index. The gelding’s winning margin was 2-lengths from Swiss Chris, as he scored his third New Mexico 870 Championship victory in the last four years. Coronas Boy was coming off of a neck victory against open company in the 870-yard $50,000 Herman Jefferson Stakes at Zia Park on Oct. 2. A winner of 10 of 35 outs who has earned $515,062, the gelding has won five stakes, all at the 870-yard distance.
Coronas Boy has raced exclusively in New Mexico, and he is one of two winners from six start- ers foaled by My First Corona. The gelding’s third dam, winner Tinys Effort, ran third in the 1990 Black Gold Futurity Championship-RG1 at Blue Ribbon Downs in Oklahoma. Coronas Boy traces back to his fourth dam, Tinys Rose Bud, a multiple stakes placed winner and finalist in the ’83 All American Futurity-G1 at Ruidoso Downs.
Swiss Chris (Swissle Stick TB-Ace Crystal Charm) was prepped by Armando Quintanilla, Jr. for owner Moises Brito Hernandez. Ricardo Jaime rode the multiple stakes placed 5-year-old gelding.
Tag Yur It (Roll Hennessy Roll TB-Upside Down) finished third under Ruby Gonzalez for owner 3 L Racing Partners and trainer Lauren Fincher.
Streakin Disre (Desirio-Streakin Cadiz), Jess Excessive (Jess A Chicks-Excessive Victory), Dark Brook (Brookstone Bay-Houston Duchess), DM Ada Kat (Gonna Ro Sham Bo-Kat Kora), and Fine Fine Borrachito (Winners Version-Gazpacho Boracho) completed the order of finish. Blu Envy and El Tormenta Perfecta scratched.
Far West Futurity
L BAR D GENUINE RED

After showing and placing in his first two stakes races, L Bar D Genuine Red decided to take his first stakes victory in the $31,850 Far West Futurity at Portland Meadows on Oct. 24.
The sorrel gelding entered the first post position as the favorite under jockey Kassie Guglielmino. The pair led from the gate and never forfeited any ground. Their clean start and finish gave L Bar D Genuine Red his first stakes victory, as he drew off late from the other challengers. They scampered the 350-yard fast track in :18.125, earning a 90 speed index. The gelding won his Oct. 9 trial heat by 2 1/4-lengths for the fastest qualifying time to the finals.
L Bar D Genuine Red took his earnings tally
to $25,046 in his first season for owner Hillary Durham and trainer Robert Beckner after claiming the $12,740 winner’s share of the purse.
F. Darrell and Linda M. Sanders homebred the gelding in Oregon out of stakes-placed winner Be First Rose, who finished 2nd in the 2006 Oregon Bred Juvenile Championship. She has produced 100% money earners from two starters. L Bar D Genuine Red is her top earner and first stakes win- ner. The gelding also finished second in the July 4 Firecracker Futurity at Grants Pass and third in the May 8 Pot O’ Gold Futurity at SunDowns.
