JESS PAINT YOUR LIPS

Dashin Follies played a role in the one-two finish- ers of the Sept. 17 Adequan Prairie Meadows Derby Challenge. She is the second dam of the win-
ner, Jess Paint Your Lips, and the dam of PYC Paint Your Wagon, sire of second-place PYC Mischief.
Jess Paint Your Lips went off as the 6-5 favorite, having previously won three of four races. Breaking in sixth from the outside post under jockey Jorge Torres, she quickly overtook those in front of her, drawing off to win by 3 1/4-lengths, in :19.541 for the 400 yards. The $16,524 winners share of her first stakes win boosted the fillys earnings to $47,040.
Stacy Charette-Hill trains Jess Paint Your Lips for owner-breeder Michael Pohl, who also bred and raced PYC Paint Your Wagon. Pohl bred Jess Paint Your Lips in Oklahoma from 2-time winner Paint Your Lips, a full sister to PYC Paint Your Wagon. The mare has produced 100% money earners from five starters, including Grade 2 finalist High Ace, Jess Paint Your Lips is her first stakes winner.
Roberto Gomez owns and trains PYC Mischief (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Meddlin Mischief), who fin- ished second under jockey Roberto Valero. A maiden winner at Arapahoe Park, the gelding was coming off a third in an allowance race at Prairie Meadows.
Casey Foster’s homebred Fowl Play (Royal Shake Em-Behavin Cartel) finished third. Cody Smith rode the gelding for trainer Robert Johnson. Previously this year, Fowl Play won once and ran second three times in four starts.
Completing the field were Royal Quick Eagle (One Famous Eagle-Rustys Quickid), Tres Sea (Tres Seis-Runaway Wave), Justified (Foose-Special Wave), Sister Shelly (Mighty Invictus-Kisses Someday),
Ms Dynasty (FDD Dynasty-Miss QH), Waves Copilot (Mr Piloto-One More Wave), Ivory Charmer (Ivory James-Mongoosecharminghawk), and Shezawinesnob (Heza Fast Dash-Fine Wines).
Merial PRM Distaff Challenge
HONEYMOON CANDY

The 400-yard Merial Prairie Meadows Distaff Challenge was run on Sept. 17 and had a total purse of $32,580.
Honeymoon Candy broke second from the 2-post, was in the lead at the first call and was in command for the entirety of the race. Oscar Delgado kept the bay filly focused and they crossed the wire a head in front, stopping the timer at :19.676 to earn a 93 speed index.
Honeymoon Candy also earned the first place check worth $14,661, taking her total earnings
to $84,436 for owners Michael A. & Donalda Pohl and trainer Stacy Charette-Hill. The filly also finished third in this year’s Remington Park Distaff Challenge-G3 and the 2015 Canterbury Park Derby.
Honeymoon Candy was bred in Oklahoma by Michael A. Pohl out of winner Jess Send Candy.
She has produced 100% money earners/ROM from seven starters including 2-time Champion Jess Good Candy, and New Track Record setters/stakes winners This Candys Awesome and Send Me This Wagon.
Bye Bye Birdy (Hawkinson-Sweet Bye And Bye) was second for owner Barbara Barley and trainer Larry Sharp. Stormy Smith had the riding assign- ment. Blacks Cartel (Streakin Six Cartel-Brandi Whiz) rallied to finish third under David Pinon for owner Tracy Black and trainer Casey Black.

Gillespie County Fair Futurity
KATHARSIS

Fourth-fastest qualifier Katharsis scored her first stakes win in the $146,350 Gillespie County Fair Futurity on Aug. 28.
Ridden by Eddie Sanchez, Katharsis went 350 yards wire-to-wire in :17.670 with a winning margin of a nose over Flying Red Corona. Jose Sanchez prepped Katharsis for owner Emanuel Villarreal of Graham, Washington, who acquired the gray filly from breeder Bobby D. Cox for $6,500 at last year’s Heritage Place Yearling Sale.
Katharsis was coming off of a 1/2-length victory in her Gillespie County Fair Futurity trial on Aug. 14. Raced exclusively in Texas, Katharsis has won three of her six outs, and the $51,222 winner’s share of the Gillespie County Fair Futurity purse pushed her bankroll to $72,690.
Cox bred the filly in Texas out of the 2004 Ruidoso Futurity-G1 winner All About Ease. The mare has produced 100% money earners from 24 starters. Katharsis, who was also second in the TQHA Sires’ Cup Futurity-RG3 on July 2, is a half- sister to three graded stakes winners, including ’09 Rainbow Futurity-G1 winner Zoomin With Ease and Chazaq, the winner of the June 19 Ed Burke Million Futurity-G1 at Los Alamitos.
Grant Farms LLC’s Flying Red Corona (Corona Cartel-The Long Straw) ran second under Alfonso Lujan in her return from Ruidoso Downs for trainer Adrian Huitron. Ardor (Ivory James-First Fervor), the fastest qualifier, ran third under Manuel Gutierrez
for owner Double H Racing Investments and trainer Adrian Huitron. Followed by RB Rockin Pop (Jodys Money Pop-Royal Rockin) Pool Runner (Pool- Cherished Dance), JE And Thee (The Louisiana Cartel- Eternal Destiny), Jess Ponyupmr (Mr Jess Perry-Shell Eye Your Cash), DF Dashing Champ (One Dashing Eagle-Joanna Kate) & JMF Western Cartel (Carters Cartel-Oceans Tea). Zapata Chic was scratched.
