RED CORONA WARRIOR
by Dillon Hamilton
Red Corona Warrior decided five years was long enough for the Gillespie County Fairgrounds 330- yard track record to stand as he scored in the $17,500
Simulcast Services Stakes for three-year-olds and upward on Aug. 27.
The 4-year-old sorrel gelding won his third out of his last four stakes races with impressive ease on the fast track in Fredericksburg, Texas. Running under Noe Villatoro for the first time, Red Corona Warrior finished the wire-to-wire victory with no troubles from the outside post, 1 1/2-lengths ahead. He clocked in a New Track Record of :16.311 and
a speed index of 117. The old record of :16.486 was held by Good Luvin.
The $10,500 winner’s purse brought Red Corona Warrior’s lifetime earnings to $146,629 for owners Almada Racing and trainer Josue Ponce.
The Terrazas Family bred Red Corona Warrior out of Prairie War Princess, in Texas. The unraced 9-year-old gray mare has three race-aged foals, but Red Corona Warrior remains her only stakes and multiple stakes winner to date. Earlier this year the gelding won the King William Handicap and the Texas Twister S.
Aidens Corazon (Tres Seis- Streakin O Toole) ran a tough second, battling the length of the track under Julio Rodriguez. The 5-year-old drifted in and held second from wire-to-wire for owners Ramon Escamilla and Jorge Mendoza. A Kool Secret (No Secrets Here-A Kool Zoom) redeemed a sixth-place start with a big effort for a third-place finish after being bumped hard under Ignacio Bustamante.
First Prize Dive (Ivory James-First Prize Pearl), Jess Fly With Me (Fly Jess Fly-The Meteorite), SR Inseperable (Inseperable-SR Shesa Dean), Little
Man Rockin (Rock Solid Jess-The Queens Ransom), Quiet Riot (Swingin Jess-Dashs Co Ed), and Cashshae (Spit Curl Jess-Your Cash Treat) completed the order of finish. Jess Rockn scratched.
Elko Intermountain Futurity
TACITANDRUN
by Dillon Hamilton
Odds-on favorite, Tacitandrun dominated the field and became a multiple stakes winner in the $40,000 Elko Intermountain Futurity at Elko County
Fair on Sept. 5. Tacitandrun was the fastest qualifier to the race after winning his Aug. 27 trial by 3/4-length. In the finals, the two-year-old sorrel gelding com- manded the lead from wire-to-wire, jumping out of the gates from the 2-post on the lead and quickly gaining a 1/2-length lead. Tacintandrun never relinquished any ground on the fast track. He ran under jockey Jesus Virgen, drifting out a bit, but besting the field the entire way for their 6th victory together.
The pair scampered over the 350 yards in :17.488 and Tacitandrun earned a career high speed index
of 110 after recording a time of :17.767 in the trials. Tacitandrun continued his freshman year success with this victory, and the $16,000 winner’s share of the purse jumped the gelding’s earnings to $30,545 for owner/trainer Fredy Olmos. Tacitandrun previ- ously won this year’s Roche Equine Futurity and was 2nd in the Oneida County Fair Futurity.
Lake & Ledona Newcomb bred Tacitandrun out of winner Runaway Seis in Oklahoma. Tacitandrun became the mare’s only multiple stakes winner from her 4 starters, although all of them are money earn- ers/ROM earners.
Oh So Fancy (One Sweet Jess-Oh So Arrogant) was 2nd under Jesus Canales for owner/trainer Jere Brinkerhoff. Rgr Fastlane Ta Fame (King Aire-Heart Fire) was 3rd under Santiago Jimenez for owners David & Ross Hinkins and trainer Alvaro Torres. Followed by Winners Policy (Winners Version- Chick N Chat), Chester On Fire (Fighter On Fire- Candy Lips), Jr Mahalia (One Famous Eagle-Prissy B Panther), Bc Moon Fight (Fit To Fly-Megans Secret), Runninthrutheroses (Walk Thru Fire-Fast Red Rose), and Bars And Cars (Desirio-First Prize Paris). Elko County Fair Derby
DASH N THE WIND
by Dillon Hamilton
There was no wind and that was not a problem for Dash N The Wind in the $18,500 Elko County Fair Derby on Sept. 5.
The three-year-old sorrel gelding seized his chance on the clear, calm day in northeast Nevada, recording his first stakes victory.
After winning his Aug. 20 trial race wire-to-wire in :20.172 for the fastest qualifying time, Dash N The Wind and rider Cordarelton Benn pulled away from Jrs Blue Boy in the finals for a 1/2-length vic- tory over the 400-yard, fast track.
Dash N The Wind started from the two-post and was second from the gates. Although he drifted in a bit, he held off all contenders. Dash N The Wind bested his trial time in the Elko County Fair Derby finals with a finish time of :19.938 and a speed index of 102.
Dash N The Wind’s earnings more than doubled with the $7,400 winner’s share to $12,822 for owner Melody A. Olsen.
Glade Van Tassell conditions the Dash N The Wind, who broke his maiden by a neck in his initial out last year at Wyoming Downs.
F. Bert Lamb bred Dash N The Wind in Utah out of winner Eyes Flashy. The 15-year-old mare has produced two starters/money earners. Dash N The Wind is her only stakes winner.
Race favorite Jrs Blue Boy (Fantastic Corona Jr-Lil Blue Blitz) rallied late under Jesus Valenzuela, but it wasn’t enough to catch Dash N The Wind. The gray gelding is owned by Allie Sam and trained by Riley Moosman. Jrs Blue Boy was the third-fastest qualifier to the Elko County Fair Derby after finish- ing second in his trial heat to Rgr First To Fire. Jrs Blue Boy is a multiple stakes winner in the Laurel Brown Derby and in the Intermountain Futurity.
Rgr First To Fire (First Down Illusion-Heart Fire) lost ground early, but was game late, making a great effort to hold off any advances by rivals. The gelding crossed the wire in third under Santiago Jimenez for owners David and Ross Hinkins. Alvaro Torres trained Rgr First To Fire, who was the second fastest qualifier to this race. The gelding won last year’s Ed Giles Futurity.
Tic Tac Attack (Tac It Like A Man-Harney Girl), Betty Boom Boom (Brookstone Bay-Trista Boom Boom), Allwings (Onthewingsofglory-Lilis All), Hyper Quick (Be Real Quick-Hyper Lass Tb), Dontelleryourcard (Teller Cartel-Play Your Card), and Sinful Call (Masters Call-Sinful Suspect) com- pleted the finishe. Love That Look was scratched.
