Sorelli, a 4-year-old filly and one of four distaffers in the 10-horse field, led at every call en route
to a neck victory in the Bank of America Emerald Downs Championship Challenge on Aug. 21. Ridden by Eswan Flores, Sorelli covered 440 yards in :21.794 while recording a career-best 101 speed index. Roddina Barrett prepped the filly for owners Warlock Stable and Kelly Dougan.
In addition to banking the $27,490 winner’s share of a $59,760 purse, Sorelli landed a spot in
the Oct. 29, $350,000 Bank of America Challenge Championship-G1 at Los Alamitos. Her total life- time earnings were boosted to $50,080 with her first stakes win. Sorelli was sent to post as the 2-1 favor- ite. All told, the mare has won six of 17 starts, and her resume includes a second-place finish in the May 8, 400-yard Merial Sun Downs Distaff Challenge.
Sorelli was bred in Oklahoma by longtime breeder A.J. Renner of Billings, Montana. Sorelli is one of two winners from four starters produced by Cupids Special Fly, a winning homebred. Sorelli is a half-sister to Hawk Fan, who won the 870-yard Woodlands Stakes at Sam Houston Race Park in 2009.
Barrett also prepped Stella Corona (Stel Corona- Yak Ity Yak Go), the runner-up at odds of 16-1. Luis Gonzalez rode the homebred 3-year-old filly for owner Jeff Ray. Klassic Secret BR (Fantastic Corona Jr-Stylish Secret) ran third under Eduardo Gutierrez- Sosa for owner Silvestre Sanguino, who also trains the 4-year-old filly.
RTM Mr Caccia (No Secrets Here-Shirleys Secret), James First Affair (Ivory James-Fancys First Affair), BH Country Chrome (Country Quick Dash- Apollo Snowbound), Lebron 6 (Jess Zoomin-JN Sonoma Rose), Hes A Bugin (Sixthirteen TB-Missy Nickle Bac), My Best Bunny Yet (Best Advice-Royal Time Bunny) and Quematierras (Fastnfierce-Back Street Gal TB) completed the order of finish.

Make it 4 starts, and 4 wins for Poutn On The Wagon. The gelding kept his undefeated record intact in winning the $43,338 Canada Cup
Futurity-RG3 in impressive fashion at Lethbridge
on Sept. 18. A 42 mph crosswind didn’t slow him down. He broke well from the 2-gate & led by a head at the 1st call. He stayed in front at every remaining juncture, leading by 1-length going into the stretch before coasting to the line in front by 3/4-length.
William Leech trains Poutn On The Wagon, who had Ricardo Moreno aboard for a 400-yard trip that was completed in :19.812 for a 103 speed indwz. Poutn On The Wagon also had the fastest qualifying time from the Sept. 4 trials in which he scored an impressive 1 1/2-length win. After his trial, Poutn On The Wagon was the favorite for the finals. Home-bred by Pete Schoeler, Poutn On The Wagon pushed his total earnings to $44,239
with the addition of the $20,048 winner’s share.
The gelding also won this summer’s Alberta Bred Futurity-RG3 in which he set a 300-yard New Track Record for a career high 108 speed index.

Toughie finished strong to win the $25,266 Canada Cup Derby in Lethbridge on Sept. 18. William Leech trains Toughie, who got away from the inside starting gate well. The filly briefly ran in 4th in the early stages, but poured on the speed & grabbed a 1-length lead entering the stretch. Jockey Ricardo Moreno urged Toughie to widen the gap, and she sported a comfortable 1 1/2-length margin as she hit the wire in :19.783 for the 400 yards.
The Canada Cup Derby stakes win produced a 104 speed index, equaling the career high she tallied in the derby trials. Toughie was the fastest qualifier from the Sept. 3 trials, in which she went wire-to- wire to win by 3/4-lengths. Toughie banked an $11,370 payday & upped her bankroll to $115,470.
Charles Stojan’s filly now has won 3 straight races & has improved her overall record to 8(3)-1-0 from 10 starts. She has won all of her 7 starts in the Canadian province of Alberta, including last year’s Canada Cup Futurity-RG3 and this year’s Adequan Evergreen Park Derby Challenge.
Edward C. Allred bred Toughie in California and home-bred her mare, 2-time winner Hard Lining. The mare has produced 100% money earners/win- ners from 4 starters, including 2 stakes winners.
