Alberta Stallion Stakes Derby
IMA RUNNIN FIRST

Ima Runnin First ran to his name in winning the ini- tial stakes win of his career, taking top prize in the $22,051 Alberta Stallion Stakes Derby at Northlands
Park in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, on Aug. 20. With Adrian Gonzales up, Ima Running First
broke well and raced in 4th early in the 330-yard dash. The 3-year-old sorrel gelding hit his best stride in the lane & closed with a rush in time to nip pacesetter & stablemate First Prize Sass at the wire. Ima Runnin First broke his maiden & clocked the distance in a lively :16.761, earning a career best 102 speed index. The time was just a bit off of Im Hott Ur Nott’s 2015 track record of :16.556 set in 2015.
The $10,024 winner’s share increases Ima Running First’s bankroll to $20,458 and improved his record to 9-1(1)-3-3. He was 2nd by a neck in his Aug. 10 trial for the 4th fastest qualifying time.
Ima Running First is a homebred for Wesley T. Oulton, who is also his trainer. The gelding is was bred in Alberta, out of winner Ima Jess A Streaker, dam of 100% money earners from 2 starters. Ima Runnin First is her 1st stakes winner and top earner.
Trained/ownerd by Oulton, 2nd placed First Prize Sass (First Timber-Sass N Dass) showed the way early under Rafael Zenteno. The filly was 2nd in her trial and won the 2015 Evergreen Park Juvenile Challenge. Even-money race favorite Flybye 109 (Special Fly Bye-Eyes Double Quick) rallied late under Jose Rocha to finish 3rd for owner/trainer Bucky Stockwell.
The filly won her trial for the fastest qualifying time and won the 2015 Alberta Stallion Stakes Futurity. Sheaintawhiskylulaby (Sizzlin Red Corona-Cleats Rockette) was 4th, followed by Northfork Sizzle (Sizzlin Red Corona-RJ Bitterroot Babe), Better Knickers (First Timber-Better Secret), Fly Bye Cruise (Special Fly Bye-Eye Cruise), Shawnee 109 (Special Fly Bye-Shawnee Royale) and Send Gold (Cuivre River- Fantastic Race Babe). Northfork Jess was scratched.
Evangeline Downs Dash
BAREFOOT BEACH

Barefoot Beach kept her win streak alive with a 3/4-length victory in the 220-yard Evangeline Downs Dash on Sept. 30.
Ridden by Manuel Guitierrez for owner Samuel
Martinez and trainer Yoani Abreu, Barefoot Beach covered her trip in :11.625 and earned a lifetime-best 105 speed index. The $12,000 winner’s share of the $20,000 purse pushed her bankroll to $69,909.
The sophomore filly, who sold for $13,000 at
the 2014 TQHA Yearling Sale, was bred by Bobby D. Cox of Fort Worth, Texas, out of Babe On The Beach, a stakes-winner who ran second in the 2001 Golden State Futurity-G1 at Los Alamitos. The mare has produced 19 starters with earnings over $1 mil- lion, including top earner Dont Let Down, winner of the 2006 Dash For Cash Futurity-G1 at Lone
Star Park and the 2007 All American Derby-G1 at Ruidoso Downs.
Campaigned in Texas and Louisiana, Barefoot Beach has won four of 15 outs. The filly’s current win streak includes a nose victory in the 330-yard, $33,400 French Quarter Stakes at Fair Grounds on Sept. 3.
RBD Jessaswingin (Swingin Jess-Furby) ran sec- ond under John Hamilton for owner Jaime Gutierrez and trainer Guadalupe Garza, Jr.
Joel Galindo’s Scoopies Leaving You (Coronas Leaving You-Ms Scoopies Toast) finished third under Donald Watson for trainer Kevin Broussard.
Corona And Jewels (Coronas Leaving You- Martinis Jewel), Rosouti (Agouti-Rose For Windy), T Boy G (Sir Runaway Dash-Got A Project), Swingin Princess (Swingin Jess-Thrillish), BP Holland Cartel (Cartel Success-Holland Chickie), PYC First Prize Mia (PYC Paint Your Wagon-First Prize Diamond), and Cartel Jr (Corona Cartel-Shes Takes All), who was DQ’d from seventh to last, completed the official order of finish.

HEZA LOUISIANA DASH

Heza Louisiana Dash, a 4-year-old gelding campaigned by TM Ranch of Winter Garden, Florida, earned his second career stakes victory
in the Amelia Belle Stakes for Louisiana-breds at Evangeline Downs on Oct. 1.
Ridden by Gilbert Ortiz for trainer Kenneth Roberts, Sr., Heza Louisiana Dash covered 350 yards in :17.294 for a wire-to-wire win and posted a career-best 105 speed index.
The $18,000 winner’s share of the purse bumped his bankroll to $310,115.
Heza Louisiana Dash was bred by Jumonville Farms of Ventress, Louisiana, and Burnett Ranch out of 2-time winner Eyejesslovelouisiana. She has produced 100% money earners from three starters, including Louisiana Fast Dash, a full brother to Heza Louisiana Dash who ran fifth in last year’s Lee Berwick Memorial Futurity-RG1 at Delta Downs. His second dam, the homebred Louisiana Eye Opener, won the 2005 La Primera del Ano Derby-G2 at Los Alamitos.
A $52,000 buy at the 2013 Louisiana Quarter Horse Breeders’ Association Yearling Sale, Heza Louisiana Dash has won eight of 18 outs, includ- ing last year’s $267,171 Louisiana QHBA Derby at Evangeline Downs.
Lets Jess Do It (First Prize Perry-Lets Separate) finished second for owner Noe E. Pena. Alfonso Lujan rode the multiple stakes winning 6-year-old gelding for trainer Bobby Martinez.
TM Dees Prize (Fast Prize Dash-Call Her Dee) finished third under Antonio Alberto for owner Humberto Amaro and trainer Juan A. Carrillo, Jr.
Icanonlyemagine (Swingin Jess-Real Or Imagined) finished fourth and was followed by Scooter Prize (First Prize Perry-Royal Baby Scooter) and Philips Streakin (Heza Fast Dash-Six Streakin Salute). Open Me A Corona scratched.
