Lakeview Dash
OPEN ME A CORONA
by Michael Compton
Open Me A Corona is a true professional. The 2015 Champion Aged Stallion racked up yet another stakes victory—the 12th of his stellar
career— handily defeating six rivals in the $50,000 Lakeview Dash Stakes at Fair Grounds on Sept. 3. Ridden by David Alvarez, Open Me A Corona
rocketed away from the starting gate in the 250-yard dash, grabbing the lead early and never looking back. He drifted in the lane, but cruised to a 1 1/4-length win. Open Me A Corona stopped the timer in :12.963, narrowly missing the track record he set in 2014, and earned a 98 speed index.
The win improved the 6-year-old horse’s overall record to 15(12)-1-1(1) from 19 starts and increased his earnings to $879,002 for owners Charles Forbes, Jr. & Tommy Hays and trainer Bobby Martinez.
The richest stakes score in Open Me A Corona’s racing career came in 2012 when he won the Louisiana QHBA Futurity-RG1, picking up a cool $445,000 for the effort.
Bred in Louisiana by Natalie Montgomery, DVM, Open Me A Corona is produced from lightly raced In The Open. She has produced eight starters including top money earner Open Me A Corona and stakes placers Im Jess Blue, Surf N Turf Dude and San Lorenzo Corona.
