B AND G FAST DASH
by Tracy Gantz
BAnd G Fast Dash extended his current winning streak to three races in the Faubourg St. John Stakes at Fair Grounds on Aug. 27. In doing so, he
kept his record in 870-yard races perfect, following two victories at Delta Downs, including the Live Oak Stakes.
With jockey Donald Watson aboard, B And G Fast Dash scampered away from the gate on top in the 870-yard Faubourg St. John. None of his four rivals could get close to him, as he kept widening his advantage. B And G Fast Dash ultimately scored by an impressive 6 3/4-lengths in :45.656 to earn a career best 99 speed index. The $24,000 winner’s share of the purse boosted his earnings to $140,470.
Kenneth Roberts, Sr. trains B And G Fast
Dash for owner Oscar Rohne. The gelding also ran third in the 2014 LQHBA Sale Invitational Stakes and was a finalist in the Louisiana Champions
Day Derby-RG3. B & G Group Investments Inc. bred B And G Fast Dash in Louisiana from lightly raced Rita Regent. The mare has produced 100% money earners and five winners in seven starters. La Mos Chingono, a 7-time stakes winner, has nearly $360,000 in earnings. B And G Fast Dash is her second stakes winner.
Streak Of Music (Miracle Streak-Wire Me
Music TB) was 2nd by a nose under jockey Damian Martinez. Ray Robbins trains the 5-year-old gelding for owner Kevin Nobles. Streak Of Music won the Faubourg St. John last year. Juan Marquez piloted Game Own (Game Patriot-My Own Fortune) to 3rd for trainer Yoani Abreu & owner Yaima Grillo. The 5-year-old gelding captured the Sailfish Stakes earlier this year at Hialeah and was second in the Live Oak. Completing the field were Speed Bok (Boknaai-Wish
I Dustem) and Droppin Timber (First Timber- Droppindead Gorgeous). Dwaynes First Perry, Fire On The Fly, and JLS Book Of Psalms were scratched.
Gentilly Dash Stakes
SHADES OF BUCK
by John Moorehouse
Shades Of Buck sprinted into black type at Fair Grounds, digging in late to win the $37,700 Gentilly Dash on Aug. 20.
Adrian Huitron trains Shades Of Buck. The geld- ing broke from the 8-post and, given the short distance of 250 yards, had to chase down the early leaders. Damien Martinez got Shades Of Buck to the wire first by a neck at the front of a blanket finish of five horses. It marked the first stakes victory for the three- year-old gelding, who did qualify for three restricted graded futurities last year. Shades Of Buck now holds three wins in nine career starts. Owned by H&R Roofing, the gelding’s lifetime bankroll improved to $65,300 with the addition of this $24,000 prize. Shades Of Buck completed his stakes-winning trip in :13.138, logging a career high 91 speed index. C. Edward Taylor bred Shades Of Buck in Louisiana out of Shaded Sins, a lightly-raced mare who has two foals—both starters/winners. Shades Of Buck becomes her first stakes winner.
Snipes And Bites (Vrrroom-BR Corona Sensation) out-nodded pre-race favorite Scoopies Leaving You for second place. Pete Scarmardo
owns Snipes And Bites, a Jose Sanchez trainee who had Randy Edison aboard. Scoopies Leaving You (Coronas Leaving You-Ms Scoopies Toast) is owned by Joel Galindo and trained by Kevin Broussard. Donald Watson did the riding. Scoopies Leaving You was coming off a win in the Flying Breed Stakes held at Delta Downs.
T Boy G (Sir Runaway Dash-Got A Project), PYC First Prize Mia (PYC Paint Your Wagon- First Prize Diamond), JW Divino Comento (First Comment-By Divine Right), Chicks Leaving
You (Coronas Leaving You-Chick Called Chick), Runaway Canyon (Ocean Runaway-Corona Canyon) and Rosouti (Agouti-Rose For Windy) completed the field.
LQHBA Sale Invitational
SWINGINSTAR
by John Moorehouse
Swinginstar soared into black type at Fair Grounds Race Course, winning the $35,943 LQHBA Sale Invitational by daylight on Sept. 2.
This time, Swinginstar was clearly the class
of the field. He broke on top under Damian Martinez, promptly built a one-length lead by the first call and maintained that advantage at every subsequent call.
The gelding recorded a 1-length victory in the stakes race, his fourth overall win in five starts. Bobby Martinez trains Swinginstar, who covered the 350 yards in :17.849, posting an 84 speed index and bringing home a $13,658 payday that improved his total earnings to $53,264.
This was his second try at a stakes victory; his only career loss, a sixth place finish in the Lee Berwick Futurity-RG1 held earlier this summer.
Owner Narciso Flores homebred Swinginstar
in Louisiana along with his dam, winner Lil Rising Star. She has produced four starters from as many race age foals, including winner Off Road Princess. Swinginstar is her top earner and first stakes winner.
Big Daddy Bux (Zoomin For Bux-Run Abby Run), the pre-race betting favorite, finished second for owner Maria Garza and trainer Lanny Keith. J.R. Ramirez did the riding.
Operator On Fire (Fighter On Fire-A Dashing Operator) hit the board in third place for Jeffery Alton Locklear. The Trey Ellis trainee had John Hamilton in the irons.
Racing Kane (Jet Black Patriot-Ms Janas Perry), Mr Jess Black (First Down Mr Jess-Black Magic Mountain), Sir Dre (Sir Runaway Dash-Princess Valene), Tee Mata (Tee Cos-Head Trauma), Royal Quick Patriot (Jet Black Patriot-Holy Buckets), Fast Streakin Nick (Heza Fast Dash-Streakin Bye Salute) and RF My Special Duck (Oak Tree Special-Miss Delta Duck) completed the field.
