BAREFOOT BEACH
by Danny Camp
Yoani Abreu took over the conditioning of Barefoot Beach for her last two races, and she has won them both. The latest victory came in the 330-yard French Quarter Stakes where the filly received every call and won by a nose at Fair Grounds on Sept. 3.
Barefoot Beach broke on top from the 3-gate and jockey Manuel Gutierrez sat quiet until he felt pres- sure from the outside near the finish. They crossed the wire in :16.679 to earn a 96 speed index for her first stakes victory.
With first place money of $18,000 from the $33,400 purse, Barefoot Beach has now earned a total of $57,909.
The brown filly is owned by Samuel Martinez and was bred in Texas by Bobby D. Cox out of stakes winner Babe On The Beach. The mare has produced 19 starters with combined earnings over $1 million, including top money earner and All American Derby-G1 and Dash For Cash Futurity-G1 winner Dont Let Down.
Toastin With Coronas (Coronas Leaving You- Princess Toast) changed gears and finished second under John Hamilton. The filly is owned by Gene Cox and trained by Trey Ellis. She finished fourth in the July 9 Flashy Hemp Stakes at Delta Downs.
Miss Mallard Struts (Struttin To Beduino-Miss Mallard) finished in third under Damian Martinez. Her connections include owner Jose Luis Perez Aguirre and trainer Adrian Huitron. The 3-year-old filly was coming off a fourth place finish in the Aug. 20 Treme Derby-G3 at Fair Grounds.

It Sassy (Tac It Like A Man-Jess Sass Me), Fyre

De Saix Stakes
MR TEE COS
by John Moorehouse
Running at odds of almost 10-1, Mr Tee Cos sprinted to his second stakes victory going wire-to-wire to win the $32,900 De Saix Stakes on
Sept. 2 during the closing weekend of the 2016 meet at the Fair Grounds.
The two-year-old colt is undefeated through his first four career starts. This marked his second win in stakes company. Home-bred by Winston Houston, Mr Tee Cos also captured the Alabama Futurity at Delta Downs earlier this summer.
Trey Ellis trains Mr Tee Cos, who broke on top from the 3-post. He led by a 1/2-length as he entered the stretch, then held off a late bid from Jess A Little Star to reach the wire first by a neck.
John Hamilton did the riding assignment as Mr Tee Cos covered the 300 yards in :15.507, posting an 88 speed index and snaring an $18,000 payday that pushed his total earnings to $54,847.
Houston and Marcus Tillman bred Mr Tee Cos and own his dam, Dashing Danali, a 2005 mare who won four of her 19 starts. Mr Tee Cos is the only foal out of the mare to date.
Jess A Little Star (Jess An Idea-Little Eye Opener) took second place for owner Juan Bazaldua and trainer Adrian Huitron. Damian Martinez did the riding. Sizzlin Stewart (Sizzlin Cartel-Stone Ginger) hit the board in third for P and D Racing. The Kenneth Roberts, Sr. trainee had Gilbert Ortiz up.

Esplanade Stakes
EXQUISITE STRIDE
by Tracy Gantz
Exquisite Stride has taken a roundabout route from his native California to Louisiana, where he is scheduled to enter stud next year at the Louisiana
Center for Equine Reproduction. He has competed in four states—New Mexico, Louisiana, Texas, and Oklahoma—most recently capturing the Aug. 27 Esplanade Stakes at Fair Grounds.
Though he broke fourth, Exquisite Stride wasted no time in bulleting to the front in the 350-yard Esplanade. He and jockey Joe Badilla, Jr. drew away from the others, hitting the wire 1 1/2-lengths ahead of their nearest competitor while stopping the timer in :17.550, good for a 93 speed index. The $18,000 winner’s share of the purse boosted the colt’s earn- ings to $250,532.
Exquisite Stride qualified the fastest for the 2014 All American Futurity-G1. He finished sixth in the final, but the following year won the Evangeline Downs Derby. Prior to the Esplanade, he captured this year’s Miss Polly Classic Stakes-G3.
Bruce Bell trains Exquisite Stride for D & S Racing LLC, which purchased the colt for $20,000 at the 2013 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale. John Andreini bred Exquisite Stride from winner Tinys Lil Jess, who has produced 100% money earners from three starters. The second dam, Tiny First Down, won the 2000 Southern California Derby-G1.
The Golden Bowl (Mr Eye Opener-First Dashin Bye) finished second with David Alvarez aboard. Martin Trejo trains the 4-year-old colt for owner Rogelio Marquez Jr.
TF Little Bit Rowdy (Mr Jess Perry-Got A Project) ran third for jockey John Hamilton, trainer Lanny Keith, and owner Tate Farms.
Completing the field were Rusty Bloom (Jet Cartel-Seattle Bloom TB) and Firefly Fortune (Jet Black Patriot-Toast To Fortune). Louisiana Legends was scratched.
