SURE FIRE FLYER

Sure Fire Flyer flew to her first stakes win in the 400-yard Merial Lone Star Distaff Challenge at Lone Star Park on Oct. 1.
The 3-year-old sorrel filly worked herself into an advantageous position from the 1-gate. She jumped out to an early lead at first call under jockey Manuel Gutierrez, mounting a 1-length lead over the nearest rival in the stretch. Sure Fire Flyer held off a strong charge by SR Esmeralda and crossed the wire a head in front and recorded a time of :20.210 while earning an 81 speed index. This is the filly’s first stakes win in three challenge starts.
Sure Fire Flyer’s lifetime earnings leaped to $23,971 after claiming the $14,863 winner’s share of the $32,310 purse. Israel Soliz, Jr. owns the filly and Adrian Huitron trains her.
Gabriel Campan Ortiz bred Sure Fire Flyer out of 5-time winner/Grade 3 finalist Segura in New Mexico. She has produced 100% money earners from two start- ers including top earner/Grade 2 stakes placed Famous Paint. Sure Fire Flyer is her only stakes winner.
SR Esmeralda (Red Storm Cat-Lets Get Fiscal) chased down the leaders under Francisco Calderon. The 3-year-old filly narrowly missed out on the win and finished second for owner Silvia Robles and trainer Abel Morin. Adashinrose (Furyofthewind- Pats Special Rose) gave a solid effort to finish third under jockey Esgar Ramirez for owners Bobby and Mike Briscoe and trainer Toby Keeton.

Kat Galore B (FDD Dynasty-Fast Prize Ginger), Shaker Secret (No Secrets Here-Eyesa Shaker), Kiss The Tears Away (Furyofthewind-Dash For Snow), Rock Princess (Rock Solid Jess-A Classic Serenade), Twntyfour Karat Rock (Rock Solid Jess-Sultry Miss) and Lil Effortless Reign (He Will Reign-Effortless Love) completed the order of finish.

EC CARTEL

EC Cartel claimed his third stakes win in the $20,000 Zoetis Lone Star Distance Challenge for three-year-olds and up at Lone Star Park on Oct. 1.
The 7-year-old bay gelding avenged a 2014 second-place finish in this race with a come from behind victory. EC Cartel was out of the gate well under Donell Blake, breaking mid-pack and falling to seventh by first call, but mustered a late rally. The gelding overtook the leaders on the home stretch and won by 1 1/2-lengths. The pair sprinted the 870-yard track in :45.816, earning a 95 speed index. All three of the gelding’s stakes wins have been 870-yard races, confirming his talent at this distance.
Alejandra Carrion owns EC Cartel, whose life- time earnings reached six figures at $104,086 after adding this $13,274 winner’s share. Judd S. Kearl, leading trainer by wins and money earned in 2016, trains the gelding.
Enrique Carrion bred EC Cartel in Texas out of Twayna Too. She has produced 100% money earners from five starters including Texas Hi-Point Distance Horse EC Cartel is her top earner. It Makes Too who is a stakes winner in Mexico.
Odds-on favorite Fire On The Fly (Jet Cartel- Shades Of Pink TB) finished second under Ricky Ramirez. The 6-year-old gray gelding is owned by Bullard Farms and trained by Tommy Bullard.
The Field Cricket (Lead The Field-Quick Lil Cricket) finished third under Jerry Yoakum. The 8-year-old bay gelding is owned by Claud R. Denson and is trained by Jesse Yoakum.
Daring And Dashing (First Down Dash- Splendifferous), CJS Rocksolid (Rock Solid Jess-Sultry Miss), Jess Twice Cash (Jess Louisiana Blue-Twice Cash), and Streaking Cartel (Bedouin Cartel-Streakin Jessie Gail) completed the order of finish. Jessa Little Rusty lost his jockey and did not finish. Dashers Midnight scratched.

RC ME LEAVING YOU

Rc Me Leaving You stayed true to his name for his first stakes win in the $20,000 Neville Stakes for Texas-bred three-year-olds and older, at Lone Star
Park on Sept. 16.
The 4-year-old bay colt took advantage of good
conditions and put on a show worthy of his name. He started in the second postposition under Jose Alvarez and left second to last from the gate, setting the stage for his big comeback effort. He made a powerful surge down the stretch and tracked down his rivals for his first stakes win.
The pair sprinted the 350-yard fast track in :17.413, earning a 102 speed index. They crossed the wire 3/4-lengths ahead of the nearest challenger.
Bennie and Terri Jeter own the bay colt, whose earnings reached $135,152 with the win. This year’s wins and earnings leader, Judd Kearl, trains the win- ner for the Jeters.
RC Running Horses bred RC Me Leaving You out of Sixy Bottom in Texas. She has produced 100% money earners from six starters. RC Me Leaving You is her top money earner and first stakes winner.
KW Cowboy (Mighty Corona-Tres Dia Noche) led early, but was no match late. The 4-year-old bay gelding held place under Eddie Sanchez. His connec- tions include owner K&W Land and Cattle Co. and trainer Brian Stroud. Snipes And Bites (Vrrroom-BR Corona Sensation) finished third under Fransisco Calderon. His connections include owner Pete A. Scarmardo and trainer Brian Stroud.
