BIGTIME CARTER

First place wasn’t enough for last year’s runner-up, Bigtime Carter, in this year’s Eastern Idaho State Fair AQHA Bonus Challenge held Sept. 9.
Bigtime Carter bagged his first stakes win and a New Track Record in an impressive wire-to-wire win in the $17,050 stakes for challenge enrolled three- year-old and older horses.
The four-year-old bay gelding recorded a big time, redemptive win for his first stakes victory after finishing second in the same race in 2015.
This year, Bigtime Carter jumped out to an early lead under Raphael Romero from the second post position.He stayed ahead of the relatively steady field—the majority of which posted speed indexes above 100—and was as much as 2-lengths ahead at the top of the stretch. Pappas In The House made a game run for the wire, but Bigtime Carter held off his foe and covered the 350 yards in :17.251. The clocking crushed the previous record of :17.398 set by BCR Buds For All in Sept. 2010.
Bigtime Carter and Romero finished the race a full 1 3/4-lengths ahead of the field, earning a 114 speed index and claiming the $8,525 winner’s share of the $17,050 purse for owner/trainer Abel Romero.
The victory boosted Bigtime Carter’s lifetime earnings to $37,415.
Bigtime Carter now has a race record of 5(1)- 5(1)-4(1) from 21 career outs, including a third place finish in the 2014 Golden State Juvenile.
Bigtime Carter was bred in Oklahoma by Paris Wixon out of stakes placed winner Ms Dashin Bigtime. The mare was second in the 1998 Carmel Handicap at Los Alamitos. She has produced 100% money earners from 11 starters, including stakes winner/multiple graded stakes placed Bigtime Favorite, her top earner. Bigtime Carter, who joins the brood as the mare’s second stakes winner, also set an additional 250-yard New Track Record earlier this year at Cassia County Fair.
Pappas In The House (Pappasito-Mongoose Jet Eye) finished second under Eddie Aceves for owner Rob Evans and Hanson Racing LLC and trainer Mark Hanson.
RTM Mr Caccia (No Secrets Here-Shirleys Secret), third under Raymundo Torres for owner RTM Stables LLC, is also trained by Mark Hanson.
Followed by El Rey Buccaneer (Buccaneer Beach-Colleens Cash), The Midnite Caller (A Regal Choice-Cee The Blurr) and All Guns Firing (FDD Dynasty-Trista Boom Boom). Ima Polaris & Snow Panther were scratched.
