owner Les Baker and trainer Lee Baker made a shrewd claim a year ago. For $5,000, they nabbed The FDD Map out
of a maiden-claiming race at Ajax Downs. Most recently the gelding became a stakes winner in the Sept. 11 All Canadian Derby at Ajax.
The FDD Map went off at odds of more than 10-1 in the Derby. Bettors preferred fastest-qualifier Zoomin
After Six, who was riding
a four-race winning streak, and they sent him away as the 1-5 favorite. Breaking from the rail, The FDD Map vied with JJ Maxwell and Zoomin After Six. With John McInerney in the irons, The FDD Map spurted away to
a good lead late in the 400- yard race and held on for a neck victory over Zoomin After Six in a time of :19.800.
Beginning his career in New Mexico, The FDD Map was unable to win there in five starts. He debuted at Ajax in August of last year, finishing second, before he won the race in which the Bakers claimed him. The FDD Map then won an allowance race and finished second and fourth in two others before acing his Derby trial to qualify as the third fastest.
Terry Wood bred The FDD Map in Texas from On The Map, who
won the 2005 Oklahoma Distaff Challenge-G3 and finished third in that year’s AQHA Distaff Challenge Championship-G1. The mare has produced two starters, both winners. On The Map is a half-sister
to Rainbow Futurity-G1 winner Cautious Memories, Ruidoso Derby-G1 winner Winninginthebuff, and two other stakes winners.
Steve Hunter’s homebred Zoomin After Six (Zoomin For Bux-Silk At Six) held onto second by a half-length under jockey Helen Vanek. Janet Grice trains the gelding, who won the Maple Leaf Derby earlier this year.
JJ Maxwell (Planetary-Stars Special) fin- ished third for Ivy Lane Racing, trainer Renee Wilson, and jockey Daniel Rose. The gelding ran fourth in the Maple Leaf Derby and has won two races.
Completing the field in the All Canadian Derby were Ourfirstorphan (First Comment- Sexy Shania), Heros Valiant Lark (Valiant Hero-Thermolark Miss), Paint It Black (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Too Hot To Snow), Eyesa Zoomn (Mezoomn-Eyesa Chickin It Out), ZZ Dynasty (FDD Dynasty-Zip Zima), and Eazy On The Eyes (Mr Eye Opener-Easily Holland). Tsumani 09 was scratched.

Bank of america Prairie Meadows Championship Challenge-G2

Fortunately for Llano Teller, he didn’t need the Sept. 15 Bank of America Prairie Meadows Championship Challenge-G2 to get
into the Oct. 27 Bank of America Challenge Championship-G1. Sent away as the 3-10 favorite, Llano Teller was expected to crush his opponents. Instead, 19-1 Ethics Aside grabbed the victory and a chance to meet Llano Teller again.
Ethics Aside broke a little slowly, but soon settled for jockey Oscar
Delgado. The 6-year-old
horse moved up under
Delgado’s urging, closing ground midway through the 440 yards. He surged up on the inside of Llano Teller
and beat the favorite by a half-length in :21.718. That earned Ethics Aside a berth in the Challenge Championship, something Llano Teller won via a victory earlier this year at Remington Park.

Jorge Gonzalez owns and trains Ethics Aside, who most recently captured the Bradford Stakes at Hoosier Park, setting a track record for 400 yards. Ethics Aside ear- lier this year won the 2012 Roble Rojo Bonus Challenge Stakes at Hialeah Park.
Joe Kirk Fulton bred Ethics Aside in Texas from Daring Difference, winner of the 1994 Heritage Place Futurity-G1. The mare has pro-
duced 12 winners, including six stakes-placed runners, from 15 starters, and she is a half- sister to champion sire Mr Eye Opener and the dam of World Champion Special Leader.
Terry Wootan’s Wootan Racing and trainer Jeffrey (Heath) Reed’s Reed Land and Cattle own Llano Teller (Teller Cartel-Annie Eye Over), an earner of more than $1.6 million. G.R. Carter Jr. rode the 4-year-old gelding.
Llano Teller’s stakes wins include the 2011 All American Derby-G1 and Ruidoso Derby-G1.
Stormy Smith piloted Wheres Your Wagon (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Yawls Spreadn Rumors) to third for owner Kay Sage and trainer Kirk Wessels. Last year at Prairie Meadows, the geld- ing won the Polk County Derby.
Completing the field were Jesse In Town (Feature Mr Jess-Whatsthatfillysname), American Spit Curl (Spit Curl Jess-American Dove), T Gold J (Gold Medal Jess-Turns To Cash), First Black Wagon (PYC Paint Your Wagon-First Black Rose), Giorgino (Apollo- TB-Las Alamitos), Legendary Express (Ocean Runaway-Metered Express), Paintyourownwagon (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Jessica Ravin), King Of The Bunnys (King Of The Mall-Ms High Flyin Bunny), and Jess Katiebug Blue (Jess Louisiana Blue-Katiebug Driver).
