  Kansas Jackpot Futurity-RG3
BRushy Blue Dale
by John Moorehouse
Brushy Blue Dale proved to be a pleasant surprise in the $65,400 Kansas Jackpot Futurity-RG3 when the 2-year-old gelding
beat favorite Breathless Moment to the wire by three-quarters of a length to win the futurity held Sept. 8 at Will Rogers Downs.
Since making his debut in March at Remington Park, Brushy Blue Dale had gone winless in his first four outs, including a fourth-place effort in the
futurity trials. However, he
did post the fourth-fastest
qualifying time of :18.122
and showed more speed in
the stakes final, covering the
350 yards in :18.079 for an
82 speed index while run-
ning through a 10 mile-per-
hour cross wind.
The Matt Whitekiller trainee drew the No. 7 gate, broke on top and proceeded to lead at every call. He
charged up the center of the track to reach the wire first, holding off fastest qualifier Breathless Moment.
Jockey Larry Payne was aboard Brushy Blue Dale, whose win produced a $26,160 pay- day for his owners and breeders at the Deere Connection that swelled the gelding’s career coffers to a new total of $26,703.
The Deere Connection also owns Beduino Dashin Chick, the dam of
Brushy Blue Dale. The 2002 mare made 10 starts with a single win before becoming a broodmare. Two of her three foals are starters, and Brushy Blue Dale is her first winner and stakes winner.
Eight of the 10 finalists
in the Kansas Jackpot were fillies, and two of them hit the board. Breathless Moment (My Designated Driver-EJ
Ms Vital Lady) drew plenty
of attention from bettors after her impressive effort in the trials, but finished second in the futurity for owner/breeder David Richardson. Trained by Jake Eck, the filly had jockey James Flores in the irons.
Down Moonshine Lane (Famous Lane- Major Moonshine), who was bred by owner Joe Vincent, secured third place. She is trained by Paul Griffin and was ridden by Paul Nieto.
DB I Can Fly (Bill Cole-DB Go West) reached the wire fourth in the Kansas Jackpot Futurity, and was followed by Country
Lights (Chicks Regard-Sweet As Cash), Webb Famous Fame (High On Corona-Famous Kelly), Struttin Kilobyte (Struttin To Beduino- Pernilla Ease), Bay Volay (Volcom-Jazing Cheree), Zero To Zoom (Shazoom-Shaky Girl) and Eyes Of Corona (Mr Eye Opener-Crazy About Corona).

Dewey Cox
by Michael Compton
Dewey Cox scored the first stakes victory of his young career on Sept. 9, getting up at the wire to take down top prize in the $38,242
Hawthorne Futurity at Sandy Downs in Idaho. Piloted by Jason Packer, Dewey Cox raced
in second position early and put his nose down on the wire just in front of Tim Dream in a blanket finish, stopping the timer in :18.070 for the 350-yard dash.
Bred by Jerry Windham, Dewey Cox broke his maiden in the trials with the sixth-fastest qualify- ing time for owner Delray Talbot. He had earned $1,059 in his five prior
trips to the post, and picked up $15,297 with his Hawthorne Futurity win.

the gray 2-year-old by Wave Carver who is now a two-time winner in six starts this season.
Apollos Winner, the dam of Dewey Cox, was a winner in two of 10 career starts. She placed in five others, including a runner-up effort in the 2003 Texas Juvenile Challenge
at Retama. Apollos Winner has also produced stakes-placed Hes Winner. Dewey Cox’s second dam is graded stakes winner Winners Dash, a sister to Grade 2 winner Runaway Cash and graded stakes-placed Running
Away, and Cash Attitude, dam of graded stakes winner Streak N Attitude.
Second-place finisher Tim Dream (Tac It Like A Man- Queenly Dream) remains
a maiden after six starts
this year. Ridden by Robert Webb for owner and trainer Larry Chapple, Tim Dream jumped out to the early lead to just miss on the line. The California-bred runner earned $7,648 for his game effort.
Sixteen Kisses (Maknmoves-Kissifer) finished a nose behind Tim Dream to secure the show slot for owner Craig Giles and trainer Nick Cronquist. Ridden by Elliot Bachicha Jr., Sixten Kisses raced in third position the entire trip. The filly has finished in the top three in all six career starts.
Undefeated Alltheshine, seeking a $25,000 bonus for sweeping the Dutch Masters III Triple Crown heading into the Futurity, had those hopes dashed by finishing seventh.
Completing the order of finish behind
the top three were: One Famous Secret (One Famous Eagle-Secretively), Legzee (Gold Medal Jess-Bullisa), Go For Sixes (Sixes Royal-Go For Miracles), Alltheshine (First to Shine-Menoalamo), Larryville (Stel Corona- Ynot Bar) and Easing Thru Traffic (Eyesa Special-Traffic Dance). Choice Dunk (A Regal Choice-First Dunk) was scratched.
