BP VALIANT POLICY

Bill Price’s BP Valiant Policy outran her status as the ninth-fastest qualifier from the Oct. 8 trials to win the 350-yard $133,160 Governor’s Stakes at Indiana
Grand on Oct. 24.
Ridden by Rodney Prescott for trainer Randy
Haffner, BP Valiant Policy defeated fastest qualifier Fast N Famous Eagle by a head in :17.808. Haffner, who serves as president of the QHRA of Indiana, and Prescott have a friendship that dates back to their days at Jay County High School in Portland, Indiana.
“Randy did a great job with this filly,” said Prescott. “She broke well tonight and was able to hold on all the way to the wire.”
Raced in Oklahoma and Indiana, BP Valiant Policy has won three of seven starts and has banked $105,884. Her resume includes a second-place finish in the Heartland Futurity at Indiana Grand On July 4.
BP Valiant Policy was bred by Price and is
one of five winners from eight starters produced by CC Policy who won the 2007 Oklahoma Futurity-G2. The filly is a 1/2 sister to two Grade 1-futurity qualifiers, including 2013 All American Futurity-G1 finalist Fatal Policy.
2nd placed Fast N Famous Eagle (One Famous Eagle-One Fast Kisser) is owned and trained by Joe Davis. Rolando Pina rode the colt who was the fastest qualifier.
Trial Winner Beyondivory (Ivory James- Beyondthegame) ran third for owner Kris Locklear, who also bred the filly. Berkley Packer rode Beyondivory for trainer Randy Smith.
WRS Hava Cupcake (Carters Cartel-Hava Zevi), Shyne On (American Runaway-Shiney Copy), The Louisiana Jewel (The Louisiana Cartel-La Jolla Rocket), Tip It Bac (Fantastic Corona Jr-Fisher Washer), El Mezcal (Magical Night-Jess Like Vegas), Sixes Escape (Mr Jess Perry-Last Escape), and Bottom Dollar (Heza Fast Dash-A Jess Perry Chick) completed the order of finish.

MAVARA VEGAS

Third-fastest qualifier from the Oct. 19 trials Mavara Vegas, owned by Alejandro Medina of Maylene, Alabama, scored her second stakes victory of the season in the $125,000 QHRA of Indiana Derby at Indiana Grand on Oct. 24.
Trained by Sacramento Chavez, Mavara Vegas broke sixth from the five-hole, was second at the first call, and then took the lead, covering 400-yards in :19.744 and recording a career-best 102 speed index. The one-time $5,000 claimer earned $68,750 to push her bankroll to $115,828.
Mavara Vegas was bred in California by Dunn Ranch Ltd. of Lubbock, Texas. Mavara Vegas is one of two winners from four starters produced by Jess Like Vegas. Her second dam, Fast And Strate, was a finalist in the 2000 Rainbow Futurity-G1 and ’01 Rainbow Derby-G1 at Ruidoso Downs.
Of Mavara Vegas’ career earnings, $112,012 has been pocketed this season. The filly has won four of nine starts, including the August 1 Indiana Grand QHRAI Derby.
“She’s just one of those horses that you don’t have to do too much with,” Chavez said. “She always races well.”
Fastest qualifier Parti Favor (Pyc Paint Your Wagon-Funparty) ran second, 3/4-length behind Mavara Vegas. Rolando Pina was aboard for owner/ trainer Joe Davis, who also trains the brown gelding.
Barbara Barley’s Bye Bye Birdy (Hawkinson- Sweet Bye And Bye) finished third. James Flores rode the homebred filly for trainer Larry Sharp.
Fast Man Vic (Mighty Invictus-Precious Debutante) finished fourth, Eye Popping (Mr Eye Opener-Shes Jess Special), RC Tac Man (Tac It Like A Man-Ms Eyelene), Apollitical Clique (Apollitical Jess-Corona Clique), and Easily Bono (Bono Jazz-Easy Launch) completed the order of finish. L Diablo and La Blue Angel were scratched.

BEACH CARTEL

Trainer Randy Smith was a busy man in the pad- dock before the Sterlie Bertram Memorial Stakes at Indiana Downs on Oct. 24, but his hard work paid off as his three state-bred 3 year olds swept the top spots in the 400-yard dash.
Ridden by Berkley Packer for owner Sheri Miller of Shipshewana, Indiana, the fastest qualifier in the Oct. 10 trials, Beach Cartel, stopped the timer in :19.933 on a muddy track. The homebred gray geldings winning margin was 1 1/4-lengths from stablemate DNA Dales Quick Cat, with additional stablemate BV Hello Darlin finishing a head behind in third.
“He is such a good horse,” said Smith of Beach Cartel. “He always stays focused and is all about taking care of business. He struggled earlier on a muddy track, but he overcame that tonight.”
Raced exclusively at Indiana Grand, Beach Cartel has earned $167,233, and his six wins from nine starts include a 3/4-length victory in 350-yard Blue River Derby on Aug. 1.
“He’s run his races for the year,” said Smith. “He’ll get turned out to rest and come back for next year.”
Beach Cartel is one of five winners from as many starters foaled by Flashin Dee Dee. He is a full brother to Beach Runner, a stakes winner who ran second in last years Sterlie Bertram Memorial.
DNA Dales Quick Cat (Quick Action-Chrystal Dale) was ridden by Giovani Vazquez-Gomez for DNA Quarter Horses LLC, while the homebred filly BV Hello Darlin (First Corona Home-BV Why Not Me) was rid- den by Rodney Prescott for owner Bella Vista Farms.
Paytons Gone (Escondido Beach-Easy Spear It) finished fourth followed by Hand Of Doom (To Be A Corona-Jess A Lil Bit), Sparky McClone (Hard Hitting- Somethin Fast), Interfector (Volcom-Shake It First), Docs First Dynasty (First Dinastia-La Joya Miracle), and LDZ Special Jess (Jess Special-Ladonna LDW). Ms Back In Action was scratched.
