TIC TAC ATTACK
by Dillon Hamilton
Tic Tac Attack ran away with her first stakes victory in impressive style while winning the $16,900 Portland Meadows Fall Derby on Nov. 20.
The three-year-old brown filly claimed her first stakes victory with relative ease under jockey Nakia Ramirez, who had ridden her once before in her previous out in allowance company.
Tic Tac Attack and Ramirez were away alertly from the 8-gate, bursting out and receiving the second call. The pair went to work on leaving their competi- tors behind. Despite their best efforts, the rest of the field gradually saw the winning pair outpace them.
Tic Tac Attack had a head at the first call, 1/2-length at the top of the stretch, and she bested the field with a 1 1/4-length win. The filly covered the 400-yard sloppy track in :20.151, earning a 97 speed index. Tic Tac Attack padded her earn-
ings in spite of the less-than-favorable conditions, taking the $6,760 winner’s share of the purse. Her lifetime earnings now total $17,361 for owner BDS Performance Horses and conditioner Skyler Green.
Breeders Mark Adair and Mark Adair II bred Tic Tac Attack out of Harney Girl, by Separatist, in Texas. Harney Girl celebrates her first stakes winner with Tic Tac Attack’s victory.
After the DQ of favorite Tickle Ur Fancy from second to last, the official results showed Shez Sneakin Fast (Heza Fast Dash-Sneak Bac) in second under Kassie Guglielmino for owner Gary Chumbley and trainer Scott Raley. Longo (Foose-Seronka) finished third under Jake Samuels for owner Jaime De La Torre and trainer Nick Lowe.
Gone Fast (Meter Me Lucky-Beautiful Ashlee), CM Its All About Me (Corona For Me-Mi Fames A Dandy), Myappi (Jet Black Patriot-Dancinwithaguys), Ez Feisty Patriot (Game Patriot-Easy Verna) and fol- lowing her DQ Tickle Ur Fancy (Dominyun-Sizzling Lola). Poison Ivey was scratched.

JESS RAVIN
by Tracy Gantz
After gate antics compromised Jess Ravin’s trial for the Los Alamitos Super Derby-G1, she came back strongly in the Las Damas Handicap-G3 on Nov. 19.
“We were in the one hole and she sort of flipped in the gate, so it wasn’t a good start,” said trainer Yanet Rodriguez of the trial.
With regular rider Jesus Ayala again aboard and from the 7-post, Jess Ravin had no gate trouble in the Las Damas Handicap. She flew to the front just a few strides into the race and proved easily the best. Jess Ravin posted a winning margin of 3/4-length in :19.703 for 400 yards.
Rodriguez trains the filly for Enrique Gonzalez’s EG High Desert Farms. Jess Ravin scored in the
La Pacifica Handicap and Vandy’s Flash Handicap earlier this year.
You and Me Partners bred Jess Ravin in Oklahoma from stakes-placed Jessica Ravin.
The mare has produced 100% money earn-
ers from 10 starters, including stakes winners Paintyourownwagon and New Mexico Hi-Pt. Aged Stallion/top earner Jess Cuervo.
BF Fooserageous (Foose-BF Outrageous) ran sec- ond under jockey Cruz Mendez for owner Kevin Birrell and trainer Matthew Fales. The multiple stakes winner has never finished worse than second in 13 starts. Oscar Peinado rode Time For Wine (Mr Jess Perry- Fine Wines) to third for owner Pete Scarmardo and trainer Jaime Gomez. Time For Wine most recently won the Merial Distaff Challenge Championship-G1.

First Down Dash Handicap
VIENTO NEGRO
by Tracy Gantz
Viento Negro is a tough guy who keeps returning from adversity to add to his collection of wins. Though he hadn’t yet won a race in 2016, he had been competitive several times, and he scored an emphatic victory in the First Down Dash Handicap at Los Alamitos on Dec. 17.
With Cruz Mendez aboard, Viento Negro broke in third from the 7-post and quickly took the lead. No one got close to him as he scored by 1 1/4-lengths in :19.810 for the 400 yards, earning a 90 speed index.
Celina Molina owns Viento Negro and bred him in Arizona. When Viento Negro was a baby, he underwent surgery, and he has overcome several health problems throughout his life. Juan Aleman trains the 2012 gelding, who won the 2014 Holiday Handicap and ran third in the 2016 Go Man Go Handicap-G1 and 2015 Oklahoma Derby.
Viento Negro is out of stakes-placed Coup Of Corona. She has produced 100% money earners from nine starters, including 2008 West Texas Derby-G2 winner Jessgottahaveit and stakes-placed Pretty Little Liar.
Far Niente (FDD Dynasty-Shahayla), a two-time winner of the Vessels Maturity-G1, ran second with Jesus Ayala aboard. Jose Hernandez, Jr. trains the gelding for owners Tom Atwood and John Wells.
Paul Jones trains and bred Flay (Favorite Cartel- Summertime Quickie), who finished third, and he owns the 3-year-old colt with Thompson Racing, Inc. Oscar Peinado piloted Flay, who earlier this year won the Spencer L. Childers California Breeders’ Championship-G1 and Dillingham Handicap.
