CHIRIS THE BREEZ

The qualifying races for the Garañones Derby took place on June 3, with the participa-
tion of 56 three-year-old Quarter Horses at
a distance of 350 yards. Two weeks later, the finals were run with a purse of $1,023,700 pesos ($45,406 US approx.).
Of the 10 qualified finalists, the best time (:17.319) was established by AQHA Mexican Champion Reina De Reinas, who also received other awards in 2017 and has a record of eight wins in nine starts. For this race, she was an entry with her teammates Pantera Down Dash and Beduino Borrascoso, who were classified with the fourth and sixth qualifying times, respectively. They received wide public preference at the box office.
The start was clean, without bumping or interference. In the initial yards, Reina De Reinas took the lead, but immediately Z Real Perry and Chiris The Breez joined her, forming a trinity that advanced at a high speed, where Chiris The Breez stood out. Chiris The Breez, well driven by José Manuel Cisneros, took the lead safely, leaving the Champion in second place and Z Real Perry in third.
Chiris The Breez negotiated the 350 yards in :17.14 for a 100 speed index, recording his first classic in 11 outs. In 2017, the colt finished second in the Garañones Futurity Consolation, but was promoted to first by disqualification of the grey filly Clasic Chic. He reached the end of this classic with a time that beat his qualifying race of :17.397.
Chiris The Breez is by Chiris Corona and out of Call Me The Breez, by Corona Cartel. Raised by Felix Bañuelos in the State of Jalisco, he is owned by Cuadra López and trained by Epifanio Carrasco Sandoval. For this victory, $394,674 pesos ($19,070 US approx.) were added to his earnings.
With the direction of Yair Daniel Báez Soto, the filly Reina De Reinas (La Jollaroid-Royal Miss Della), finished second, 1/2-length behind Chiris The Breez. Reina De Reinas is owned by Cuadra San Lázaro de Arará and was saddled by trainer Rubén Romo Hernández.
In third was Z Real Perry (Azyoucansee-Real Quick Perry), ridden by Juan Carlos García Maya for owner Rancho Hacienda Santiago and trainer Pablo Rabasa Yaguno.
The other finalists were: Pantera Down
Dash (Aguerrido –La Pantera Gris), R Shangai (Trick On The Run–Shangai Girl TB), Beduino Borrascoso (Aguerrido–Sandrita TB), Aventurero Chick (Separatist Jr–Venturenout) and Like Special (Special First Prize–Streakin Like Bugs). The gelding No Attain (Bullish One – La Chuchena) fell before the finish line with his rider José Ángel
Ambrosio Medina and minutes later he was taken away to receive medical assistance. He belongs to Hacienda San Martín Notario and was saddled by Rafael Alejandro Contreras García. José Ángel was safe from harm.

Las carreras de calificación a este Derby se realizaron el tres de Junio, con la participación de 56 corredores Cuarto de Milla de tres años, que se midieron en 350 yardas. Dos semanas después se corrió la final, que tuvo como premio $1’023,700 pesos ($45,406 US aproximadamente).
De los 10 finalistas clasificados, el mejor tiempo (17.319 segundos) lo estableció Reina de Reinas, Campeona Mexicana por la AQHA, entre otras distinciones recibidas en 2017 y con récord de ocho triunfos en nueve salidas. Para esta final iba en “entry” con sus compañeros Pantera Down Dash y Beduino Borrascoso, que se clasificaron con el cuarto y sexto tiempo, respectivamente. Esto hizo que en las taquillas de apuesta recibieran amplia preferencia del público.
La partida se dio con limpieza, sin golpes ni interferencias. En las yardas iniciales Reina de Reinas se puso al frente, pero enseguida se le suma- ron Z Real Perry y Chiris The Breez, formando una tercia que avanzó a gran velocidad, donde destacó el potro retinto Chiris The Breez que, bien impulsado por José Manuel Cisneros, tomó la delantera con seguridad dejando a la campeona en segundo lugar y a Z Real Perry en tercero.
Chiris The Breez negoció las 350 yardas en 17.14 segundos, para un SI de 100, llevando a su récord el primer clásico en 11 salidas a la pista. En 2017 concluyó segundo en la consolación del
Futurity Garañones, pero
fue promovido a primero por descalificación de la potranca tordilla Clasic Chic. Llegó a la final de este clásico, ganando con amplitud su carrera de cal- ificación en 17.397 segundos.
Es hijo del semental Chiris Corona en la yegua Call Me The Breez, por Corona Cartel. Criado por Félix Bañuelos en el Estado de Jalisco, es propie- dad de la Cuadra López y entrenado por Epifanio Carrasco Sandoval. Por este acierto se adicionaron $394,674 pesos ($19,070 US aproximadamente).

Para la tercera plaza finalizó Z Real Perry (Azyoucansee – Real Quick Perry), tripulado por Juan Carlos García Maya; pertenece al Rancho Hacienda Santiago y lo entrena Pablo Rabasa Yaguno.
Los demás finalistas fueron: Pantera Down Dash (Aguerrido – La Pantera Gris); R Shangai (Trick On The Run – Shangai Girl TB); Beduino Borrascoso (Aguerrido – Sandrita TB); Aventurero Chick (Separatist Jr – Venturenout) y Like Special (Special First Prize – Streakin Like Bugs). El castrado No Attain (Bullish One – La Chuchena) se desplomó poco antes de cruzar la meta, junto con su jinete José Ángel Ambrosio Medina; minutos después se incorporó y fue retirado para recibir la asistencia médica adecuada. Pertenece a la Hacienda San Martín Notario y lo ensilló Rafael Alejandro Contreras García. José Ángel salió ileso del percance.
