                 Horseshoe Indianapolis Classic
JESS GO BLUE
by Michael Compton
Owner/breeder Gordon Timm earned a trip to the winner’s circle following the $87,720 Horseshoe Indianapolis Classic on Aug. 11. The winner’s circle
sojourn was not, however, alongside the odds-on favorite Carters Law but her stablemate Jess Go Blue. Timm’s homebreds hit the wire together with Jess Go Blue prevailing by a nose over Carters Law for trainer Karin Yike, who saddled both the top two finishers.
Ridden by Shanley Jackson, Jess Go Blue raced in sixth position early in the 400-yard test. The bay 5-year-old mare rallied strongly through the lane, collaring early leader Carters Law close to home to score by a nose at the finish. In notching her first career stakes victory, Jess Go Blue stopped the timer in :20.077 and earned an 89 speed index.
While Jess Go Blue competed in the maiden ranks from 2020 through her maiden-breaking effort in 2022, the 5-year-old mare is figuring out the game and she has now won four of her last five starts. With her latest win, she improved her record to 15-4-4-1, and the $48,246 winner’s share of the purse increased her earnings total to $100,236.
With her second-place finish, Carters Law (Carters Cartel-Zoomin Zoey B) was denied a sixth straight win. Ridden by Antonio Rodriguez, Carters Law, like the winner, is a homebred for Timms. In a game effort, Miss Royal Snow (This Snow Is Royal- Jess Ready too Wear) finished third, just a neck behind the runner-up. Ridden by Jose Ruiz, Miss Royal Snow is owned and trained by Oscar Preciado.
Scandylous (Hez Our Secret-Favorite Candy), One Coldhearted Diva (One Fabulous Eagle-Whata Chilled Cat), On A New Note (One Fabulous Eagle-Corona Cerveza), Alota Lovin (Lota PYC-Ms Victoria), Our Game Changer (Jess Zomin-Cant Bug This Game), HF Whoopi (Brimmstone- Firebawl), and Nachor Favorite (Habits Secret-Eyes A Favorite) completed the order of finish.
Indiana Bred Stakes
HH C J SHAKE
by Michael Compton
Despite an awkward start in the $36,432 Indiana Bred Stakes at Horseshoe Indianapolis on Aug. 10, multiple stakes winner HH C J Shake recovered
quickly and bested eight rivals in the 350-yard fixture for his 10th career victory.
Ridden by Erik Esqueda, HH C J Shake raced
in third position early but quickly surged to the front in the lane. In a driving finish, HH C J Shake fended off a stubborn Hooked On Jordan to score by 1/2-length at the finish. The sorrel gelding stopped the timer in :17.784, earning a 92 speed index in the winning effort. The race marked his initial win in five starts this season.
Owned by Larry Carter, John Myers, and Rusty and Bell Hawkins and trained by Shawna Martin, HH C J Shake improved his lifetime record to 30-10- 8-4 and the $20,240 winner’s share of the purse increased his bankroll to $409,623. Bred in Indiana by Larry Carter and John Myers, HH C J Shake is out of the Royal Shake Em mare Shakem Jake.
Runner-up Hooked On Jordan (Fast Prize Jordan-Hooked On Laveaux), piloted by Edgar Diaz, raced in contention throughout and held the place spot by a nose. Hooked On Jordan is owned and trained by Ollie Matthews. Also, a multiple stakes winner, Hooked On Jordan was bred in Indiana
by Ron Raper. Stone Lake (Escondido Beach-Silly Chix) rounded out the top three. Ridden by Luz Martinez, Stone Lake pressed the leaders from the start and just missed second by a nose for owner and trainer Anthony Cunningham. Sherri Miller bred the chestnut gelding in Indiana. AJK Forgiven (Mo Zoomo-Loving On The Run), J J Zoomin (Jess Zoomin-Justa Dance), Princess Beach (Escondido Beach-Princess Royal Blew), Nacho Sin Tacha (Habits Secret-Sin Tachas Angel), El Fulano (Encore-RC Giver Her A Chance), and Encores Bright Image (Encore-Bright Lineage) followed.
Horseshoe Indianapolis Stakes
RB EC MYSTERY ZOOM
by Tracy Gantz
Pouring rain didn’t deter RB EC Mystery Zoom from becoming a stakes winner, as he scampered home first in the Aug. 8 Horseshoe Indianapolis Stakes. Edgar Diaz got RB EC Mystery Zoom out
quickly from the rail in the 350-yard event over the sloppy, sealed track. RB EC Mystery Zoom, the 5-1 third choice, led throughout to easily score by 1 1/2-lengths in :17.665.
RB EC Mystery Zoom has raced for owner
Isaul Gonzalez since he began his 3-year-old season this year. Previously, the colt raced for his breeder Ricardo Borjas. He is trained by Sacramento Chavez.
RB EC Mystery Zoom broke his maiden in his fourth start as a 2 year old and has competed his entire career at Horseshoe Indianapolis.
Borjas bred RB EC Mystery Zoom in Indiana from unraced A Royal Mystery. The stakes-winning Shazoom stallion Mo Zoomo sired the colt. A Royal Mystery has produced four winners in five starters, including El Candyman, who ran third in the 2017 Heartland Futurity at Horseshoe Indianapolis.
The Political Sign (Apollitical Jess-The
Fiscal Sign), ridden by Martin Munoz, owned
by Alejandro Medina, and trained by Ricardo Martinez finished second. The filly had won once in six prior starts.
Hector Sanchez owns and trains third-place One Famous Amos (One Famous Versace-Where The Wind Blows). Germarius O’Neal rode the gelding, who has one win and was coming off three consecutive third-place finishes.
Rounding out the field were Quiet Conversation (Seperate Interest-Little Talks),
RK Lady Dana (Bogart-RK Rollin Cartel), GV Diamante (Freighttrain B-Fast Prize Karen), Miri V (Cartels Feature-GV Perlita), and Sum Beach Sum Were (Habits Secret-Ms Fool Me Once). AJK Forgiven was scratched.
