WCRSeperateandcool already had a
world record to his credit heading into the 2012 racing season. Now, the 7-year-old gelding has added a stakes victory to his career dossier, winning by a nose in the $27,750 Mr Jet Moore Stakes on March 18 at Remington Park in Oklahoma City.
Owned by Saul Acosta, WCRSeperateandcool is rather lightly raced despite his age. The Mr Jet
Moore marked his 18th
career out, and the geld-
ing has logged four or
fewer starts in four of his
five competitive seasons. WCRSeperateandcool did
not race as a 2-year-old.
BPS Jumpin Frisco and BV Eye Am First, who drew the two inside starting positions, got out to the front of the five-horse field out of the gates. However,
WCRSeperateandcool quickly established himself in a solid third after emerging from
the No. 5 hole. Jockey Ricky Ramirez then urged WCRSeperateandcool to make a late move, and he outnodded BPS Jumpin Frisco by a nose in a photo finish.
The winner’s share of $15,246, improved WCRSeperateandcool’s total bankroll to $131,155. He has now won five of his last six
starts, with a third-place fin- ish in the Eastex Handicap in his most recent effort.
“I let him get going and get his rhythm,” Ramirez
said after the race. “He was about a length behind to BPS Jumpin Frisco but had enough once he found his stride.”
Harvey Baeza trains WCRSeperateandcool, the first stakes winner among eight starters produced by his dam, BCR Really Cool. The
1999 mare also holds a stakes win, seizing first place in the 2002 Bitterroot Derby at Les Bois with five additional top-three finishes in stakes company. BCR Really Cool, who is owned by Shane Giles, has 10 total foals.
Bruce Turner bred WCRSeperateandcool, who was foaled in Idaho.
BPS Jumpin Frisco (Jumpn-Frisco Fling) placed a close second for owner/breeder Bill Price. The Eddie Willis trainee had Jimmy Brooks in the irons.
BV Eye Am First (Mr Eye Opener-Lady Telia) took third by a neck. The gelding is owned by Hipolito Pina, trained by Bonifacio Almanza and had jockey Jesus Salazar aboard.
Separate Bet (Separatist-Better Bet On Me) and Rekles Chic (Jumpn Chic-La Gallas Reckless) completed the field. Found A Candy Tree and Hijo De Villa were scratched.
