BS SPECIAL

Favorite BS Special nabbed her first stakes chal- lenge victory in the $45,765 Minnesota Stallion Breeders’ Futurity that were nominated and remained
eligible by trial at Canterbury Park on July 2.
The brown filly took her first stakes victory with
relative easy as she broke from the 8th postposition in seventh. Her young legs proved to have great quality, passing by those who broke ahead of her and showing the same desire she had in her trial when she ran the fastest qualifing time from the June 17 trials.
BS Special found the lead at the stretch and extended her lead to 1-length at the wire under David Pinon. They sprinted the 350-yard fast track in :17.908, earning a 95 speed index.
The win brought home the $20,696 winner’s share of the purse for owner Duane Murphy and trainer Casey Black. BS Special’s lifetime earnings now total $38,285.
Barley & Sharp Farm and Burnett Ranches bred BS Special out of 2-time winner Im Quick Say Bye Bye. BS Special her first stakes winner out of three starters that include stakes placed Tres My Steps..
Triple Vodka Feature (Triple Vodka-Ms Dashing Feature) dueled under Nik Goodwin. The bay filly fin- ished second for owner Summer Run Inc. and trainer Jason Olmstead.
Itinkican Itinkican (Freighttrain B-Moonlight Masquerade) was third under Brayan Velazquez. The brown filly races for owners Summer Run Inc. and trainer Jason Olmstead.
EOS Marie Leveau (High Rate of Return-A Dream Chick), Sweet Twisted Tea (Sweet First Down-Dashing On The Moon), Ima Lil Storm Cat (Red Storm Cat-A Lil Bit Reckless), EOS Bea Mine (High Rate Of Return-My Love My Valentine) and Bodacious Peach (Bodacious Dash-Ima Teller Peach) completed the order of finish. Calamady Jane and High On Chablis were scratched.
Gopher State Derby
LA MOS PYC

La Mos PYC led at every call of the $32,759 Gopher State Derby on June 10 at Canterbury Park. The three-year-old filly brought home the first-
ever stakes win for herself and for her trainer, Lori Harris. Thomas Scheckel owns La Mos PYC, who posted her fifth win in 10 total starts. She already was stakes-placed, finishing third in last year’s run- ning of the Arizona QRA Futurity at Turf Paradise.
There was no catching La Mos PYC in the Gopher State Derby. Stormy Smith brought her out
of the 5-hole, where she broke on top and opened a 1/2-length lead by the first call. The filly held on from there, beating runner-up Lil Baby Eagle to the wire
by a head. La Mos PYC completed her trip in :20.572, posting an 84 speed index while running into a 40 mph headwind. She entered the race as the second- fastest qualifier and pre-race favorite at the betting window, winning her May 27 trial in :20.292. The $16,375 prize pushed her total bankroll to $41,595.
Bred by Oscar Rohne, La Mos PYC joins her dam, La Mos Chingono, as a stakes winner. Rohne also owns La Mos Chingono, who captured 7 restricted stakes victories as part of a 25-race career that included 10 victories and more than $355,000 in earnings.
Lil Baby Eagle (One Famous Eagle- Babyigotchamoney) made a late surge to secure second place for owner Larry Rice and trainer Rudy Ramirez. Marcus Swiontek did the riding. Scheckel also owns Corona Springs (Corona Cartel-Aquafina), who hit the board in third. The Jason Olmstead trainee had Brayan Velazquez up. Bob Morehouse Stakes
VODKA AT MOONLIGHT

Vodka At Moonlight, a homebred three-year-old filly campaigned by Paul Luedemann’s Summer Run Inc., scored her second career stakes victory in the $29,200 Bob Morehouse Stakes at Canterbury Park on June 25.
Ridden by Brayan Velazquez for trainer Jason Olmstead, Vodka At Moonlight defeated Blacks Cartel in the 400-yard stakes by a head in :20.305. In addition to earning the $14,600 winner’s share of the purse, the Triple Vodka filly recorded a season- best 91 speed index.
“She ran like I thought she would if she gave her- self a chance,” said Olmstead. “We thought maybe (removing the blinkers) would help her relax if she could see everything in the gate.”
Vodka At Moonlight is one of two winners from as many starters foaled by stakes winner Moonlight Masquerade. The filly has banked a total of $63,324 winning four of seven starts, including last year’s $49,300 Minnesota Futurity and finishing second in the 2016 Minnesota Stalion Breeders’ Futurity.
Blacks Cartel (Streakin Six Cartel-Brandi Whiz) was ridden by David Pinon for trainer Casey Black. Tracy Black owns the homebred 4-year-old mare. Eric Castro’s Rey D Arranque (Afterallitsme-Jazzing Jackie) ran third. Justin Klaiber rode the 5-year-old gelding for trainer Randy Weidner. Gramma Ella (Knud With Wings-Whereshesupposedtobe), Jess A Chance (Jess Jones-Unlika Angel), Mountain Rake (Gone To The Mountain-Rakin Sweet Cash) and
I Am The Doctor (Love My M.D.-Aint No Game) completed the order of finish.
The Bob Morehouse Stakes is restricted to Minnesota-breds or horses who were at least 50 per- cent owned by a Minnesota resident as of February 1. The race honors Bob Morehouse, an influential Minnesota breeder and member of the Canterbury Park Hall of Fame.
