Expo Square Stakes
ADMIRAL ZOOMWALT
by John Moorehouse
Admiral Zoomwalt navigated his way to a fourth career stakes victory, winning the $17,225 Expo Square Stakes at Fair Meadows on June 24.
Admiral Zoomwalt and Thespeedprofessor estab- lished themselves early as the class of the eight-horse field, separating themselves by daylight. Admiral Zoomwalt emerged from the duel down the stretch, however, making it to the wire first by a 1/2-length underneath rider Donell Blake.
Owned by Justin Lee Robinson, the five-year- old gelding completed his triumphant 870-yard trip in :45.341, posting a 103 speed index despite a 12 mph crosswind. Three of his four victories in stakes company have come at the 870 distance, including the Walter Merrick Memorial at Fair Meadows and the Will Rogers Distance Challenge. He also won the 400-yard OQHRA Fall Classic Stakes in 2015.
Admiral Zoomwalt collected his 10th overall win, and the $10,338 payday from the Expo Square swelled his career earnings to $141,151.
John Weghorst trains Admiral Zoomwalt, who was bred by Mike Nobles and Christine Hudson
out of winner Tellin It All. She has produced 100% money earners from six starters, including stakes winner First Rate Return. Oklahoma Hi-Point Aged Gelding Admiral Zoomwalt is her top earner.
Thespeedprofessor (Furyofthewind-Dreams For Lyndsie) finished second for owner Darling Farms. The Michelle Hurdle trainee had Mario Delgado aboard. Give It To Shaq (Afrashad TB-Brittany Dale) placed third for owner Tana Caldwell, who also trains the gelding. Josh Romero did the riding.
Followed by pre-race favorite Droppin Timber (First Timber-Droppindead Gorgeous) followed by Blazen Panther (Panther Mountain-Blazen Madie), Petes Favorite (Pete’s Wonder TB-Jiggle It Around), J Boy A (Jess Zoomin-Mighty Classy Lassy) and Cyber Cat (Furrtreeous-No Snoozin Floozie).
Golden Driller Stakes
I V GONE
by John Moorehouse
IV Gone repeated as winner in the Golden Driller Stakes, having won the same race in 2016, going gate to wire to take first place in the $17,500 race at
Fair Meadows on June 18.
Making his fifth straight appearance in a stakes
event, I V Gone was a strong favorite in this year’s Golden Driller, with wagerers at almost even-money odds. The 7-year-old gelding broke from the inside starting gate well, led by a head at the first call
and maintained that slim advantage going into the stretch. I V Gone proceeded to hold off Sexy And I Know It B to win by a neck, finishing the 350- yard trip in :17.554 and earning a 95 speed index. Leonardo Reza trains I V Gone, who had Cody Wainscott aboard.
I V Gone, owned by Celesse Fregoso, reached the winner’s circle for the 11th time in 40 total outs and notched his fifth victory in stakes company.
In addition to the two Golden Driller wins, he also triumphed in last year’s Jerry Jaggars Memorial,
the 2014 OQHRA Fall Classic, and the 2013 Will Rogers Derby Challenge. This $10,446 payday takes his earnings to $181,147.
L.P. Frank bred I V Gone and owns his dam, lightly-raced Bye Bye Bygones, who has produced two stakes winners from 7 starters, including G3 winner/Oklahoma Hi-Point 3-Year-Old Gelding/ top earner Bye Byefreighttrain, as well as stakes placed Bye Bye Cartel.
Green D Ranch, LLC owns 2nd placed Sexy
And I Know It B (Apollitical Jess-Sheza Lilbituino),
a Miguel Banuelos trainee ridden by Jesus Salazar. V Power (Valiant Hero-Ferarri Fast Prize) took third under Paul Nieto for CoCoMo Racing LLC & trainer Dustin Cox. Followed by Corona Senator (Louisiana Senator-Fly Miss Corona), Dancing Capo Decapi (Capo De Capi-Miss Sound Dancer) & Olde Monee (Fantastic Corona Jr-Royaltime Separatist).
Fair Meadows Juvenile
DEAN MIRACLE LADD
by John Moorehouse
Dean Miracle Ladd enjoyed a successful debut in stakes company, making a driving finish to win the $17,500 Fair Meadows Juvenile on June 24.
Home-bred by the Kendrix Brothers, the rookie gelding now has a lifetime bankroll of $18,660 with the addition of this $10,230 payday. Dean Miracle Ladd notched his second win in three outs since making his debut in April at Remington Park.
Edward Ross Hardy trains the gelding, who broke well from the 3-post and was running a close second at the first call. Jockey Mario Delgado urged Dean Miracle Ladd into the lead by a head by the time he entered the stretch, and the gelding with- stood a challenge by Chasin My Desire to reach the finish line first by a neck.
A big longshot at the betting window at odds of almost 16-1, Dean Miracle Ladd completed his 350- yard trip in :17.939, posting an 84 speed index. Dean Miracle Ladd is the first starter out of his dam, the lightly raced 2010 mare My Miracle Lady, who also was home-bred by the Kendrix Brothers.
Chasin My Desire (Chicks Regard-Hi Ho Desirio), a finalist in the Oklahoma Futurity-G3 earlier this year, finished second by a neck for owner Sammy Manek and trainer Luz Chavira. Jockey Daniel Torres was in the irons.
Candyman Dash (Cartels Candy Man-Peekaboo Dash) hit the board in third place for Joe Casarez. Robert Esqueda trains the gelding, while jockey Josh Romero drew the riding assignment.
The remianing order of finish was Ivory Trader (Ivory James-Belle Of Valor), Cy Corporal Ed (Coronas Prospect-Me N You Baby), Jessatacthiscorona (Special Royal Corona-This Jess Will Atac), Mighty B Good (Mighty B Valiant-Igottagoodee), Dejango (Desirio- Sweeties Streak), Mr Rushmore (Rushago-Miss Okey Dokey Zevi) and Streakinonthestrip (Capo de Capi- Streakin Virtue).
