AMCCCCM Classic
BEER WAGON
by Luis Prieto Zamudio, translation by Eduardo Silveyra
Of the seven entrants in this classic, the filly Louisiana Run of Cuadra Garañones was removed, so that only six came to the final
event on May 21 to compete at 400 yards for the second gem of the Mexican Quarter Horse Triple Crown. Among these was the winner of the first jewel, the sorrel colt Tempting Splash Dash, who won the Easily A Possum Classic on March 20.
It was a small group, but a very competi- tive one that also included AQHA Distaff Challenge of Mexico winner Tempting One, and the favorite at the betting windows Chirina Glorys Classic, a paternal sister of the sprinter Tempting Splash Dash. There was also Agent Provocateur, who in her two year old career came out well in the AQHA Juvenile Challenge of Mexico and in the Mexican Futurity, and she was also a favorite of the bettors as the third best option to win by odds.
At the start and most of the way, the speed of JP Specially Special (#5) was noted for
his white blinkers at the center of the sandy track with good support and command from Arturo Romero. Beer Wagon (#6) followed at a cautious distance, but in the final 50 yards he used his energy reserves to hunt down the leader and cross the goal 3/4-lengths ahead, leaving Agent Provocateur (#7) in third place.
Beer Wagon, a son of PYC Paint Your Wagon and out of Fredaville by Mr Jess Perry, covered the distance in :19.37 for a 99 speed index. This is the first classic added to his record, which consists of four first place finishes and two second places from eight starts. He had at the helm for this race Israel Domínguez Morales. The colt was saddled by trainer Rigoberto Vega López.
Beer Wagon was bred in the United States by Robert Gentry and is owned by Cuadra
El Cuartel, which is located in Atitalaquia, Hidalgo State. For his win, he took to his account $181,200 pesos (approximately $9,592 US), the main part of the $302,000 pesos (approximately $15,987 US) assigned as a total prize to this classic that was exclusive to three- year-old runners.
JP Specially Special (Specially Alluring
- Sheza Special Devon), captured second place for Cuadra Valeria under the command of Arturo Romero. He is trained by José Miguel González Osorio. He was also second place in the National Day of the Charro Championship.
From the consistent San Lázaro de Arará Cuadra, Agent Provocateur (Walk Thru Fire - Favored) placed third with rider Moisés González García. She was saddled by trainer Leonilo Cruz García.
The other participants were: Tempting
Splash Dash (Tempting Dash-Thebabeisback),
A Sweeping Triumph (Bedouin Cartel-Lusi) and Tempting One (Tempting Dash-One Slick Jessie)
