winning futurities in Canada runs in the family of Bye Me One Kool Bud. The gelding added to the family tree with a victory in the Oct. 17 Fort Erie Futurity, and he fol- lowed his dam and half-sister, each of whom won the All Canadian Futurity.
Bye Me One Kool Bud, sent away the second-longest shot at more than 16-1, got the jump on the field out of the gate. He didn’t really need that advantage,
though. He scooted out to a
commanding lead and wid-
ened it throughout the 400
yards, winning as much the
best by an easy two lengths
in :19.920. The win was
worth $18,247.
Brian Bell has ridden
Bye Me One Kool Bud in all of his four starts for trainer Don Reid. The gelding won his initial race, a 250-yard maiden event at Ajax Downs.
He finished fifth in his trial for the All Canadian Futurity and fourth in the Aug. 21 final before getting a little break between that race and the Fort Erie Futurity.
Owner William Taggart bred Bye Me One Kool Bud from One Kool Bud, who not only won the 2005 All Canadian Futurity, she also won that year’s Alex Picov Memorial Futurity and the next year’s All Canadian Derby. The
mare’s first foal, 2010 AQHA Canadian Champion One Kool Wave, won the same three races in 2010 and 2011, as well as the 2010 Maple Leaf Futurity and Legacy Futurity. Bye Me One Kool Bud is One Kool Bud’s sec- ond starter and second stakes winner. His second dam is stakes winner Kool Kinda Star, while his third dam is Kool It Yawl, a half-sister to Champion Kool Kue Baby.
Cadence Racing’s CR Northern Shake Em (Royal Shake Em-Thischicsadashing) finished second for jockey Marty Merceica and trainer Stan Webb. The gelding has won two of his six starts.
Lofty (Valiant Hero-El Streaker) ran third with Danielle DiBert in the irons. James Bratton owns and trains the filly, who had won two consecutive races going into the futurity.
Completing the field in the Fort Erie Futurity were One Famous Glass (One Famous Eagle-Quick Glass), Memories Times Six (Sixes Royal-Is It Memorex), Wash And Press (Azoom-Jess Press), Fisher Of Men (Fishers Dash-My Monica), CR Cartin The Cash (Carters Cartel-Air Traffic Controlr), and Jessies Leaving You (Coronas Leaving You- Jessies Arrangement). Charted By DM and Toast To First were both scratched.

Fort erie Derby

the Carl Pevehouse/Clinton Crawford partnership continued to roll in the Oct. 17 Fort Erie Derby. Pevehouse breeds the horses in Oklahoma out of his prolific line of mares descended from his homebred Send Me Candy. Crawford trains them, often to stakes victories, the latest being Send Candy Power.
Making her first start in Canada, Send Candy Power went off as the 2-5 favorite in the Derby. With regular rider Tony
Bennett aboard, she broke
fifth, and Toast To Wilma to her immediate outside began to crowd her. Send Candy Power kicked clear quickly and vied with Country Boy Deluxe to her inside. Midway in the 440 yards, Send Candy Power had the race under control, and she won by a half-length in :21.990.
Send Candy Power has done most of her racing in

Oklahoma. She didn’t break her maiden until May of this year at Remington Park, but she quickly added a second victory in a Fair Meadows allowance race. She missed entering the ranks of stakes winner in her first attempt, running second by a nose in the Charlie Claborn Memorial Stakes at Will Rogers Downs.
Pevehouse bred Send Candy Power from winner Eye On The Candy, a
half-sister to Speedhorse Gold and Silver Cup Derby-RG2 winner Ima Candy Suspect. Pevehouse’s foundation mare, Send Me Candy, is Send Candy Power’s third dam. Eye On The Candy has produced nine starters, all winners, including stakes winners This Candys Red Hot and Found A Candy Tree plus stakes- placed Stone Eyed Candy.
Greg Watson trains
second-place Country Boy Deluxe (Country Chicks Man-Corona Deluxe) for owner- breeder Dan Lucas’ Lucas Racing Inc. Scott Sterr piloted the gelding, who won the Adequan Ajax Downs Derby Challenge.
Cassies Carver (Wave Carver-Rosas Special) finished third with Tony Phillips up. Craig Spada trains the filly and co-owns her with Peter Spada. Cassies Carver has won two of 10 starts.
Completing the field were Paint It Black (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Too Hot To Snow), Ourfirstorphan (First Comment-Sexy Shania), Toast To Wilma (Toast To Dash-Go Wilma), Quiteasassystrawbery (Gold Medal Jess- Ramblin Strawfly), Dinozzo (King Corona- Sinus Pressure), Miracle Empress (Royal Miracle Dip-Noblesse Oblege), and Pegasos One Underpar (Down Home Dash-Pegasos Easy Seven).
