Just Wannabe Postoak lit up the toteboard in the $52,400 Cherokee Challenge Stakes at Will Rogers Downs on Oct. 20, winning the 300-yard fixture as the third-longest shot in the 10-horse field at odds of 30-1.
Winless in six prior starts this season
and overlooked by the wagering public, the 4-year-old gray gelding rewarded his backers handsomely, leading virtually start to finish under jockey James Flores.
Just Wannabe Postoak was second at the start, dueled for command the rest of the way with Tel A Story and proved best by a neck on the line. He stopped the timer in :15.332. Just Wannabe Postoak, trained by Luis Villafranco for owner Noel Prieto, earned a speed index of 101 for his effort.
James Sills’ Tel A Story (Corona Cartel-Perry Story),
ridden by David Pinon for trainer Eddie Willis, held second while Tina and Dale Kolb’s Chics Delight (Chicks Doit-Easy Hempen Chic), who won the 2010 renewal
of the race, finished a game third under Mike Frederick for trainer Dale Kolb.
The Cherokee Challenge, for Bank of America Racing Challenge-enrolled horses, was the first stakes victory for Just Wannabe
Postoak, who had placed in four stakes races prior to his stakes score. He finished second in both the 2010 Fair Meadows Juvenile at Fair Meadows and that year’s Bill Hedge Memorial Overnight Stakes at Will Rogers Downs, and finished second in the 2011 Jack Brooks Stakes at Remington and third in the 2011 Signature Stakes at Hialeah Park. The $30,930 winner’s share of the
Cherokee Challenge stakes purse boosted his earnings to $113,265.
Just Wannabe Postoak is produced from the stakes-winning and cleverly-named mare Nocoronajustbud, a winner of four of seven starts and $43,310. Just Wannabe Postoak is her only stakes winner.
Featuring Magic Man (Corona Cocktail- Featuring Beduino), Tycoon Jess (Mr Jess Perry-Royal Ready Too Wear), 8-5 favorite Sizzlin Cartel (Corona For Me-In His Dreams), Redneck Sis (SC Chiseled In Stone-Dads Sassy Sissy), LD Diamond Head (The Corona-LD Foxy Lady), Five Star Cartel (Prime Talent- These Eyes) and Eyesa Romantic (Eyesa Special- How Romantical) completed the order of finish. Redneck Sis crossed the wire in seventh but was disqualified for a bumping incident and placed last.

Don Cravins Stakes

by Tracy Gantz
Donald Watson has successfully ridden Taylors Toastin Papa for more than two years. In 15 starts together, they have won eight
races, finishing second three times and third once. Most recently, they captured the Oct. 6 Don Cravins Stakes at Evangeline Downs.
Taylors Toastin Papa broke fifth, and Watson moved him up to wrest the lead away from leader Coors Select late in the race. Taylors Toastin Papa scored a
neck victory, getting the 400
yards in :19.859.
Kevin Broussard trains Taylors Toastin Papa for Gerald Libersat. At 2 in 2009, Taylors Toastin Papa finished second in the Louisiana Juvenile Stakes and LQHBA Sale Invitational Stakes. He became a stakes winner in this year’s Mr Jess Perry Stakes-RG3 and added another win in the John
90 SPEEDHORSE, November 2, 2012
Alleman Memorial Stakes-RG3 before run- ning third in the Vals Fortune Stakes.
Taylor VanBebber bred Taylors Toastin Papa in Louisiana. Libersat purchased the colt for $82,000 at the 2008 Louisiana Quarter Horse Breeders Association Yearling Sale.
Tacha La Jolla, the dam of Taylors Toastin Papa, is a winning full sister to World Champion Streakin Sin Tacha. Janet
VanBebber trained and owned Streakin Sin Tacha and Tacha La Jolla. The lat- ter has produced five winners from six starters, includ-
ing stakes-placed Pantera
Sin Tacha and Tachas Got Game, who finished eighth in the Cravins.
Multiple stakes win- ner Coors Select (Oak Tree Special-Miss Coors Cartel), another Janet VanBebber trainee but now handled
by Alvin Brossette, was a neck ahead of Haystretcher (Heza Fast Dash-Sayin Together) for second. Ridden by Gilbert Ortiz and owned by Polly Coleman, Coors Select was coming off a second in the Treme Stakes.
Haystretcher closed for third by a nose with Alfonso Lujan in the irons. Vann Haywood trains the 7-year-old gelding for Brandon Haywood, and they claimed him for $10,000 in June 2011. Haystretcher has placed in three other stakes.
Completing the field were Louisiana Panther (Panther Mountain-Iwanna Dash), Awholeseparategame (Game Patriot-Separada), Streakin World (Worldly Man-Streak Forit), Zupers Quick Dash (Heza Fast Dash-Oh Shez Zuper), Tachas Got Game (Game Patriot- Tacha La Jolla), AJS Fast Dash (Heza Fast Dash-Snows Refrigerator), and Heza Gonna Dash (Heza Fast Dash-Iwanna Dash).
