oak Tree Chic can scratch “stakes winner” off her competitive bucket list. H and M Racing’s 3-year-old filly logged her first victory
in stakes company on Oct. 20, winning the $30,000 first division of the Billy Montgomery Stakes at Evangeline Downs.
Oak Tree Chic now holds three wins in 10 lifetime outs, and improved to 2-1-1 in four starts thus far this year. Both victories have come in succession;
the Bobby Martinez trainee
primed the pump for this
successful run in a 350-yard
allowance at Fair Grounds in
late August. This marked her
first stakes event.
The layoff of almost
two months before the Montgomery apparently gave Oak Tree Chic fresh legs. She made a powerful run from the outside starting gate in the six-horse field, propelling
herself to the front by the first call and hold- ing off top contender Unrealistic to reach the finish line first by a head.
The betting favorite at post time, Oak
Tree Chic brought home a $18,000 payday that improved her lifetime earnings to $55,614. Jockey Randy Edison drew the riding assign- ment, and brought Oak Tree Chic through the 350 yards in :17.860 for an 89 speed index.
Narciso Flores bred Oak Tree Chic, who becomes the first stakes winner out of her dam, Ascaredchic. Also owned by Flores, Ascaredchic is a 2004 mare who won three of four outs as a competitor. Two of her four foals, likewise, are winners and number among three starters produced to date. The latest offspring foaled by the mare is still a yearling.
Unrealistic (Heza Fast Dash-Real Or Imagined)
took runner-up honors for owner Gerald Libersat and trainer Kevin Broussard. Donald Watson did the riding. Unrealistic won last year’s Billy Montgomery, as part of a four-race win streak, and was coming off a second-place run in the Audubon Stakes at the Fair Grounds.
Bipty Dash (Heza Fast Dash-Bipity Jazz TB) made a late rush to place third in a photo finish with LBS Miamis Cash and On Paw Paws Dime. Ivan Alford owns Bipty Dash, a Ricky Long trainee who had Jesse Chavis in the irons.
LBS Miamis Cash (Rakin In The Cash- Streakin In Miami) and On Paw Paws Dime (Heza Fast Dash-Sayin Together) finished in a dead heat for fourth. A Fearless Heart (Panther Mountain-Sheza Fast Patriot) completed the field. Bang Bang Bang was scratched.

with one exception, La Mos Chingono has been the superior horse every time she’s stepped onto the track thus far this year. Her latest out was no exception to that rule. The 5-year-old mare held off two strong competi- tors to win the $30,000 second division of
the Billy Montgomery Stakes on Oct. 20 at Evangeline Downs.
Oscar Rohne’s mare picked up her third victory in four starts thus
far in 2012, with all of
those outs coming in stakes
company. She now holds
four total stakes wins, and
improved her overall record
to 7-4-2 in 16 starts. She
holds five additional in-the-
money finishes in stakes
races, and the $18,000 pay-
day from the Montgomery
improved her lifetime bank-
roll to $228,490.
The heavy favorite at
the betting window at less than even-money odds, La Mos Chingono needed every inch of the 350-yard distance to live up to that billing. She made a big rally late, underneath jockey Danny Lavergne, to reach the finish line first by a head over Jessalittlecourage.
Prepped by trainer Kenneth Roberts Sr., La Mos Chingono finished in :17.616. She posted her second straight win, building off a close
victory in her most recent out, the Audubon Stakes at the Fair Grounds in August. She also triumphed in the Party Girl Stakes at Louisiana Downs back in February, and the 2010 Who Dat Derby.
Robicheaux Ranch, Inc., bred La Mos Chingono out of Rita Regent, a lightly- raced 2002 mare who has foaled four starters among six offspring. Although La Mos Chingono remains her only
stakes winner, two of Rita Regent’s other foals are graded stakes finalists.
Jessalittlecourage (Jess Louisiana Blue- Faith And Courage), a relative underdog at odds of almost 10-1, made a late push herself to finish second for owner Joseph Landreneau. Kelli Smith is the trainer and jockey Jesse Chavis drew the riding assignment.
Sheezespeciallyfast (Heza Fast Dash-Spice Your Glass) was at or near the front most of the way but finished a neck behind in third. David West is the owner and Kevin Broussard the trainer. Jockey Donald Watson was aboard.
Nawlins (Heza Fast Dash-Dashing Obsession), Flamboyant Chick (Toast To Dash-Hempen Chick), Pantherinthefastlane (Panther Mountain-Sheza Neon Rose) and Unquestionable (Oak Tree Special-Real Or Imagined) completed the field.
