FQHRA Stallion Stakes Futurity
JAMES ON THE RUN
by Michael Compton
FQHRA Stallion Stakes Futurity favorite James On The Run has demonstrated an affinity for the track surface at Hialeah Park.
In capturing his second consecutive race over the strip, James On The Run reported home an easy winner in the 350-yard Futurity on Dec. 30 at Hialeah Park.
With Raul Gutierrez in the irons, James On The Run broke on top by a half-length after the start and was never
challenged through the
lane, crossing the wire a 1
1/4-length victor. Rounding
out the “James” exacta was
Ryon James, who claimed
second under David Pinion.
In fact, the top four finishers
in the futurity all have the
same sire—Ivory James.
In notching his first stakes score, James On The Run covered the distance in :17.841 for trainer Brandon

Muniz, who saddled the top three finish- ers. James On The Run has now won four straight races dating back to his maiden win on Oct. 7, 2012, at Will Rogers Downs.
James On The Run, bred in Texas by Bobby Cox, races in the colors of Rancho Los Dos Potrillos, LLC and is now a winner in half of his eight lifetime starts. He entered the Futurity off an authoritative win in his trial
race on Dec. 16. James On The Run is produced from the Grade 1 stakes-placed mare Injun On The Run. In addi- tion to James On The Run, her first stakes winner, Injun On The Run has also foaled stakes-placed Fast Beach Man.
Ryon James (Ivory James-Yadazoom) offered game chase but simply could not match strides with the winner. Third behind James On The Run in the qualifier,
Ryon James remains a maiden following
seven career outings for owner R T Stables.
He is, however, stakes placed, having finished second in the West Texas Invitational Stakes at Sunland Park in April of 2012.
Third-place finisher What Gives (Ivory James-Special And Genuine) held on gamely to secure the show spot under Freddie Martinez for R T Stables.
Checking in behind the top three were Huntin Ivory (Ivory James-Baja Rosa), Political Hope (Strong Hope-Our First Politician), Zizzle (Ivory James-Special Phebe), Bourbonstreet Boogie (Special Crown Royal-Grace Filled Charm), Shawnee Dreams (Primetime Dream-Shawnee Illusions), Hello Georgia (Georgia Halo-Shesa Golden Leo), Mr. Jess Down Focash (Papa Larry-Jacquards Darling) was scratched by the stewards.
