MOONPIEBYWIRE
by Tracy Gantz
Two of the 10 horses in the Colors of the Alamo Paint and Appaloosa Futurity on Aug. 3 at Retama Park were by Paint sire CRM Livewire. Bettors sent them off as the first and second choices, but they favored the wrong one, as 7-2 second choice Moonpiebywire scored in a four-horse blanket finish.
The two “Livewire” horses dueled on the lead
early of the 350-yard event. Two others closed, with three heads separating the first four across the finish. Moonpiebywire, who received every call under the guidance of Luis Vivanco, emerged the winner in :18.351, while favored Lotto Livewire ended up fourth.
