DIVAS FIRST MOON
by Tracy Gantz
The 1889 Futurity worth $15,000 at Canterbury Park on Aug. 11 was almost an all-Robert Johnson event. The trainer saddled four of the five entrants, all for different owners, and his charges took the four top spots.
Winner Divas First Moon broke her maiden
in her native state and finished second there in
the NDQHRA Futurity. She went off as the 1-10 favorite in The 1889 Futurity and proved much the best. With Stormy Smith aboard, Divas First Moon completed the 350 yards by a 4-length margin in :17.789, posting a 96 speed index.
Johnson trains Divas First Moon for owner David Wisdom, who also bred the filly. Wisdom bred and raced multiple stakes winner Shake Em Diva, the dam of Divas First Moon. The mare has produced 100% money earners from six start-
ers, with five of them being winners, including
top earner Mr King Cartel, winner of the 2016 NDQHRA Futurity and A Dashing Diva, who also won the same race in 2018.
Jessabluemoonlady (First Down Mr Jess-Wave Me To The Moon) finished second, but was dis- qualified to fourth for interfering with BHR Jessies Girl in midstretch.
That elevated third-place finisher Hasta B An Effort (Hasta Be Fast-Oh So Effort) to second. Jorge Torres rode Hasta B An Effort for Johnson and owner Skip Kahle.
BHR Jessies Girl (First Down Mr Jess-BHR Lookin For Winz), ridden by Doug Frink, was moved from fourth to third via the disqualification. Johnson trains that filly for owner/breeder Broken Heart Ranch.
Jessabluemoonlady was finished in fourth place and Outtasightouttamind (First Place Eagle-You Mark My Emotion) finished fifth. Harleys Wild Fire was scratched.
