Well, the finals were over at the start as Strawberry
Silk broke from the 7-hole taking the lead. She broke between Judge Cash in the 6-hole and Moons High in the 8-hole, with each moving away from her to give her a clear path to All American Futurity history. She did it in a time of :21.72 for the 440 yards with a 1 1/4-length win over Moons High in second and Effortlessly Dream in third. The order of finish after that was Reckless Dash, Streakin Shannon, Special Project, Contessa Dash, Fly Moonlark Jr, Blinkers Comment and Judge Cash. Strawberry Silk earned $1,000,000 of the $2,000,000 All American purse. The win gave Jackie Spencer her first win and the fifth win for her trainer Jack Brooks and her rider Jacky Martin in this great race.
Strawberry Silk went on to make five starts at three with two wins and one third. Her biggest check at three came from a fourth in the Kansas Derby. One of her two wins came in the Rainbow Derby Consolation. She earned $31,097. She made one start in 1991, going unplaced in the Go Together Handicap. Her race record shows 17 starts and 11 wins and three seconds, giving her total earnings of $1,266,263. Her success at two gave her the 1989 Champion Two Year Old and Champion Two-Year-Old Filly titles.
Strawberry Silk produced 27 foals and 24 starters, with 20 ROM, five stakes winners and two stakes placed runners. Her foals earned $880,592. Her stakes winners were Stoli, Rousing Encore, Cashington, Whathaveigottado and Pappasito. Stoli is the sire of foals that have won over $17 million and Pappasito is a $3 million sire.
Strawberry Silk, who proved dominant in her All American Futurity win, went on to become a successful broodmare – spreading her All American Dream. Her son Stoli is the sire of Stolis Winner, the 2008 World Champion and All American Futurity winner. Stoli is
the broodmare sire of Ochoa, the 2011 All American Futurity winner and AQHA’s all-time leading money earner.
