An Arizona Tradition of Excellence
Champion producer Be So Merry daylights the field in the Carters Cookie and G. R. Carter draw clear for a 1 1/4-length victory in the 1990 Lassie Stakes at Prescott Downs. $700,000 Grade 1 Rainbow Futurity at Ruidoso Downs on July 20, 2012.
of seven ROM racehorses. But the most significant branch of this family begins with her daughter I’ll Be Merry, by Barjo. I’ll Be Merry was the winner of four stakes races— the Holbrook Futurity, Graham County Futurity, Prescott Down Championship and Holbrook Derby. She is the dam of 12 foals and 11 ROM with three stakes winners and one stakes-placed runner.
Merry Mayor, by Midway Mayor and
out of I’ll Be Merry, was a stakes winner of four stakes races. She won the Gila County Futurity, Arizona Breeders Futurity, AQRA Prince Stakes and the Prescott Downs Derby. She was second in five more stakes.
When Merry Mayor was bred to Dash For Cash she produced Merry For Cash in 1981. Merry For Cash went on to win the Navajo County Futurity and the Prescott Downs Derby. Merry For Cash is the dam of A Streak Of Cash (Rainbow Derby-G1 winner), Lots Of Flare (Hualapai Futurity winner) and Be So Merry (AQRA Lassie Stakes winner). The sire of these three runners was Streakin Six.
Be So Merry is the next mare in this line. She is the dam of 20 starters, 16 winners
and 17 ROM. The leading performer from this family is AB What A Runner. This mare made a big splash in the Quarter Horse racing industry when she won the 2002 All American Futurity-G1 on a sloppy track. She won 11 of her 15 starts racing to the
age of 4. She added such great wins as the Los Alamitos Derby-G1, the Charger Bar Handicap-G1 and the Mildred N. Vessels Memorial Handicap-G1 to her record before she retired.
A Shot At Glory is an unraced daughter of Be So Merry sired by Strawfly Special. She is the dam of Capo De Capi, by Corona Cartel. Capo De Capi is the winner of the 2011 Heritage Place Derby-G2 and the Speedhorse Gold & Silver Cup Derby-G3.
A full sister to Be So Merry is Cash To Spare, a mare that earned an 82 speed index. She is the dam of Cash Signature, a race mare with a 94 speed index. Cash Signature is the dam of Blurred Signature, by Streakin Six, and Blurred Signature is the dam of First Down Macarena. First Down Macarena produced Rubiate, who has a 98 speed index and is the dam of Kobe, by Mr Eye Opener. Kobe won the 2012 Los Alamitos Winter Derby-G1.
These three mare families represent the foundation of the Allred Brothers breed-
ing program. But like all good breeding programs, they didn’t rest on what they had, they went out and added to the program. The following purchases would develop into two more mare families for the Allred breed- ing program and the results of this move
is the foundation of the pedigree of One Dashing Eagle.
The first of these purchases was the 1979 mare Pfeffernusse, bred by Susan Pool of Shawnee, Oklahoma. She earned her ROM in 1980 and raced through her 4-year-old year. She raced 21 times winning six, placing second five times and third five times. She was stakes placed in the 1983 Anne Burnett Invitational Handicap G1 and a stakes final- ist in the 1984 Las Damas Handicap.
The Allred Brothers purchased Pfeffernusse in December of 1983. They retired her to the broodmare band and she was bred to Dash For Cash for a 1985 foal named Well Spent. Well Spent earned an ROM with an 86 speed index. The next year saw Dashs Cash Back hit the ground, although this horse could only manage
a third in five starts with no ROM. The third foal out of Pfeffernusse was Streakin Allred, by Streakin Six. Streakin Allred was a fifth place finisher in the Graham Farms Futurity-G2.
Pfeffernusse went back to Dash For
Cash to produce One Slick One in 1988. This horse earned $157,937 while winning the Sun Country Futurity-G1 and placing second or third in six more stakes including a second in the All American Gold Cup. He was a finalist in five more major stakes races.
From 1989 to 1994 Pfeffernusse produced five foals. They include the unraced Id Card; Cookie Lover, stakes placed in the Kevin Burns Memorial Futurity; Affidavit, an ROM runner; Heza Cool Cookie, an ROM runner; and One Slick Cookie, a full sister to One Slick One.
One Slick Cookie was stakes placed in the Debutante Handicap, Gardena Handicap, Marina Pacifica Handicap and the AQRA Turf Paradise Derby-G3. She finished sixth in the Mildred N. Vessels Memorial Handicap. She started 28 times finishing first, second or third in 13 of her races and winning $32,367. Pfeffernusse produced no foals between 1995 and1997.Shewassoldin1998toH&E Ranch, Inc. of Scottsdale, Arizona.
One Slick Cookie will carry us on to the next generation. She is the dam of 11 foals that earned 10 ROM with one stakes winner and two stakes-placed runners. Her stakes winner was Focus On Speed, a Separatist mare that won the Enchanted Stakes and the QHRA of Indiana Derby.
The first stakes-placed runner out of One Slick Cookie we will look at is One Flying Cookie. This mare by Strawfly Special was third in the Yavapai Down Futurity-G3 and a finalist in the Prescott Valley Laddie/Lassie Stakes-G3. One Flying Cookie accounts for the second-largest amount of money won by the Allred Brothers as breeders in 2012. She is the dam of Carters Cookie, winner of the 2012 Rainbow Futurity-G1. This gelding accounts for $352,450 in earnings for the Allred Brothers for the year as breeders.
