                 Mr Jet Moore Stakes-RG2
A TRES OF EAGLE
Iby John Moorehouse
t had been more than 10 months since A Tres Of
Eagle tallied a victory. He picked a fine time to return to the winner’s circle, capturing the $68,000 Mr Jet Moore Stakes-RG2 on April 1 at Remington Park.
A four-year-old gelding owned by Bella Vista Farms, A Tres Of Eagle notched just his second win in 12 lifetime starts. His other victory came last May in a trial for the Ruidoso Derby. However, he also has finished second six times, and has hit the board nine times.
A Tres Of Eagle was one of the favorites at post time, going off at 5-2 odds. Trained by Eddie Lee “Bubba” Willis, A Tres Of Eagle led from gate to wire. He broke on top from the 5-hole and built a comfortable 2-length lead as jockey Ruben Castro brought him into the stretch. The gelding held from there, still winning by daylight, as he crossed the finish line ahead by a 1 1/4-length margin.
A Tres Of Eagle completed his 350-yard trip
in :17.461, registering a 95 speed index. The win produced a $39,600 payday that boosted the gelding’s total earnings to the cusp of six figures at $96,502.
The Mixer Ranch bred A Tres Of Eagle and
his dam, A Tres Of Paint, a 2013 mare with an accomplished racing record of her own: seven wins, including one in a graded stakes, and a bankroll of more than $509,000.
John Hammes trains and co-owns Purty Darn Quick (Jess Louisiana Blue-Now Margaret), the runner-up, with Nick Hammes. Ramiro Garcia did the riding. JK Wildcat Red (One Dashing Eagle-Shaky Girl) finished a game third for Regina Laymon. Victor Ibarra is the trainer and Cristian Esqueda was in the irons.
The remaining order of finish was Ferrari Tyme (Freighttrain B-Ferrari Fast Prize), Charlies Fury (Furyofthewind-Jess Charlena), Wieburg (Ivory James-Hollie Jollie), and DF Storm Tales (Wagon Tales-Storm’s Promise TB).
