Speedhorse Graham Paint & Appaloosa Futurity-G1
SIGNS OF LIVEWIRE
by Tracy Gantz
Jeff Adams’ racing interests have long tended toward Appaloosas—he is the owner- breeder of Paint Your Lips, the 2021 Appaloosa Horse of the Year. But he’s also doing quite well in Paint racing. Signs Of Livewire, bought by Adams as a baby, kept his record perfect with win in the May 28 Speedhorse Graham Paint & Appaloosa Futurity-G1 at Remington Park that merited the chart comment “annihilated.” “I’ve never seen the term ‘annihilated’ in a chart,” said Adams.
It’s an appropriate word to use for what Signs Of Livewire did to his competition. He broke on top like a seasoned pro. Jockey Jesus Salazar gave him a couple of taps with the whip, but then alternated between waving it at the colt and simply hand-riding him. Signs Of Livewire, the 1-2 favorite, pulled away to an easy 2-length victory in :17.493 for 350 yards, prompting Remington announcer Dale Day to call it “an absolute runaway.”
