Dunn Ranch owns Political Rose, who now holds a 6-1-1 record in 10 starts. She’s
no stranger to the lucrative stakes circuit in Oklahoma, placing second in last year’s run
of the Heritage Place Futurity-G1. She also competed in the 2021 versions of All American Juvenile and attempted to qualify for the All American and Texas Classic futurities.
The $117,012 prize money from this race improved the total earnings of Political Rose to $398,285. Quite the return for a horse purchased for $57,000 at the Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale in 2020.
Stone Chase Stables LLC bred Political Rose out of Cartel Rosie, a 2012 mare who won three stakes races in her own career, including the 2014 version of the Black Gold 440 Futurity at Will Rogers Downs, the 2015 running of the Oklahoma Horseman’s Association Mystery Derby. and the 2014 version of the Heritage Place Juvenile. She is a full sister to Thinkin Man, who finished third in the 2018 Governors Stakes and 2019 Old South Derby. She is also a half-sister
to Golden State Derby-G2 runner-up Long Time Favorite. Cartel Rosie has produced
six winners from eight winners, including Mitey Like A Rose, who was a finalist
in the Remington Park Oklahoma Bred
Futurity-RG1. Political Rose is her first stakes winner. Political Rose’s second dam
is multiple winner Long Stemmed Rose, who finished third in the 2004 Denim N Diamonds Handicap. the mare was also a finalist in the Governors Cup Futurity-RG1, PCQHRA Breeders Futurity-G1 and Los Alamitos Million Juvenile Invitational-RG3.
Lil Longmire (A Revenant-Dee Zired) rode the outside to a clear run for second place. The filly is owned by Ben Peterson and trained by M. Heath Taylor. Jockey Rodrigo Vallejo was in the irons. The filly finished second in her May 8 trial where she qualifid with the third fastest time. Lil Longmire won last year’s Pocatello Downs Juvenile Challenge and was a runner-up in the AQHA Downs of Albuquerque Juvenile Championship Challenge-G2.
All Pointz Bulletin (Tres Seis-All N The Jeans), another horse trained by Arrossa and owned by the Dunn Ranch, finished third. Francisco Calderon had the riding assignment. The filly won her May 8 trial for the fourth fastest qualifying time. All Pointz Bulletin won the Oklahoma Derby-G3 earlier this year.
The remaining order of finish was Jess Give Mea Reason (Good Reason SA-Send Me This Wagon), Here Comes Candy (Jess Good Candy-Candy Cartels Cat), Rainbow To Roses (Apollitical Blood-CC Seis), Ree (Apollitical Jess-Scared), Viva Le Zoom (Zoomin For Bux- Viva Arriba) and Traceys Gold (Tres Seis-SRC Gold). Early Surprise was scratched.
