Precocious and undefeated—Bye Corona Bye is doing everything right in his young career. He kept his record perfect with an
impressive victory in the $649,710 Sam Houston Futurity-G2 on June 4.
Bye Corona Bye’s trial heat on May 14 was so easy that the only real challenge was for him to qualify in a fast enough time for the final. He scored by 2-lengths under jockey Victor Urieta Jr. in :17.067 for 330 yards, which made him the fourth-fastest qualifier.
Bettors still sent Bye Corona Bye off as the 17-10 favorite in the final. Unlike his three previous races, in which he led throughout, this time he got away a little more slowly
in second after tossing his head quite a bit
in the gate. It didn’t matter though, as Bye Corona Bye shot forward quickly for Urieta. He wrested the lead away from Ponte Trucha on the rail and held off fastest-qualifier JMG Apollitical Capo to win by a 1/2-length in :16.859, posting a 96 speed index.
