CRACKLIN ROSIE
by Michael Cusortelli
Cracklin Rosie, a sorrel daughter of the Corona Cartel stallion Ima Ramblin On racing for The Girls partnership, became a
black-type stakes winner with her wire-to-wire, 2-length victory in the $20,830 Northern Plains Futurity at Chippewa Downs at Belcourt, North Dakota, on June 26.
Ridden by Uriel Cervantes and sent to post as the 1-2 favorite in a field of eight 2-year-olds, Cracklin Rosie went 350
yards in :18.200. Cole Wilson
trained the filly, who earned a
career-best 89 speed index and
the $10,418 winner’s share of
a $20,830 purse.
The fastest qualifier, Cracklin Rosie made her official career debut with
a dominating 4 3/4-length victory in the third of three Northern Plains Futurity trials on June 12. The filly has now banked $11,918 from two outs.
Cracklin Rosie was bred by Leon A. Glasser in North Dakota. The filly is out of Ms Veronica, a winning homebred 7-year-old daughter of the Mr Jess Perry stallion Mighty Invictus who ran second in the 2018 North Dakota Quarter Horse Racing Association Derby at the North Dakota Horse Park in Fargo and was a finalist in the 2017 Mystic Lake Northlands Futurity at Canterbury Park.
Cracklin Rosie’s second dam, Little Love Affair, is a homebred daughter of the First Down Dash stallion Rare News who won the 2009 Northern Plains and North Dakota Bred futurities at the North Dakota Horse Park. A 2007 foal, Little Love Affair foaled Tinys First Affair, a homebred gelding and half-brother to Ms Veronica who won the 2015 Northern Plains Futurity. Cracklin Rosie traces back to her third dam,
Sweet Sashay TB, a Kentucky-bred daughter of 1989 Breeders’ Cup Turf-G1 winner Prized. Sweet Sashay produced Tuffernhell, a multiple Thoroughbred stakes winner in North Dakota from 2011-2014.
Fifth-fastest qualifier Kool Charly (Captain Toshky-Rockin Charts) finished second under Eric Snodgrass for owner/trainer Blaine Decoteau. DCR All Fired Up (Fire Breathing Wagon- Madam Doubtfire) ran third under Giovany Estrada and banked the $2,708 share of the purse for owner Amanda Haar and trainer Bill Geditz.
Miss Vals Corona (Corona B-Miss Salty
Val), Ima Flashy Corona (Corona B-Dashin Silk Coat), Jesses Easy Memory (Dashing Jess Perry- Memories Jet), Brave Heart Courage (Captain Toshky-Rare Hula), and Jennas Quick Jess (Dashing Jess Perry-Jennas Easy Cash) completed the order of finish.
