DD Cloud did not make the field for the Heritage
Place Futurity, but winning a race with a six-figure purse proved to be one heck of a consolation prize.
Preston Cloud’s two-year-old gelding made a driving finish to take the $100,000 Heritage Place Juvenile, held May 28 at Remington Park.
FDD Cloud bumped coming out of the gates but recovered within five steps and started making his
way up through the field. Running third as the leaders reached the stretch, FDD Cloud chased down his rivals and beat Apollitical Chick V to the wire by a head.
The 350-yard trip took :17.857 for an 84 speed index. FDD Cloud’s time in the Heritage Place Futurity trials, a :17.630 run, topped the field for this race.
Clint Crawford trains FDD Cloud and won the Heritage Place Juvenile for the second time in his career. Jockey James Flores was aboard and navigated a rough start to get his charge to the winner’s circle.
FDD Cloud now has won two of his three starts, with the $25,000 prize from this race putting his total earnings at $36,850.
Mercy Hinklins Horse Farm LLC bred FDD Cloud out of stakes placed A Noble Jess Elie.
Crawford also trains Apollitical Chick V (Apollitical Jess-Me Chickie), the runner-up. Raymond Merrill and Gregory Cullum own the gelding, who had Cristian Esqueda in the irons.
