asteady crosswind was blowing at Evergreen Park in Grand Prairie, Alberta, Canada, for the running of the Jerry Stojan Memorial on July 23.
The 300-yard finals carried a total purse of $18,507, and Bringonthewave took home the winner’s share. The gelding came into the race a favorite after winning his first start in the
July 9 Jerry Stojan Memorial trials, going away by 2 1/2-lengths. In the finals, Bringonthewave broke second from the inside gate and led by 1 1/2-lengths at the stretch. The gray gelding crossed the wire a convincing 1-length in front, stopping the timer in :15.644 and earning a career-best 96 speed index.
The $8,328 first place money makes up the majority of Bringonthewave’s $9,974 bankroll. His connections include owner Dale Zukowski and trainer James Doolin. Adrian Gonzalez is his regular rider.
Bringonthewave was bred by Shady Lane Stables in Alberta, out of 2-time winner Special Corona, who finished second in the 2003 All Canadian Derby of Canada at Lethbridge. The mare has pro- duced 100% money earners from nine starters, including additional stakes winners Belladonte, Caraves Waves, winner of the 2016 Jerry Stojan Memorial, and Stella Wave, her top earner.
True Copy (TR Dasher-Realistically) finished 2nd after a disqualification. Her team is owner Charles G. Stojan & trainer William Leech. Scott Sterr had the riding assignment. Shawnee Cartel (Teller Cartel-Shawnee Royale) was 3rd with good effort. His team includes owner Doug Graham and trainer Buckey Stockwell. Jose Rocha was in the irons. Followed by Stole An Encore (Ivory James-Rare Encore), BS Playing For Keeps (Azoom-Chrysis), Deans Double Take (Ivory James-Deans Dusty Bunny), NSM Ice Dancer (Wave Carver-Corona With Ice) and Minuscule Monster (Desirio-Streakin Miss Tina), who was disqualified from 2nd to 8th for interference.
