Juno Dat Timber scored his second victory in stakes com- pany winning the $20,339 (U.S. Funds) Zoetis Evergreen Park Distance Championship Challenge at Evergreen Park in Grand Prairie, Canada on July 30.
The gelding shot from the inside 1-gate under jockey Scott Sterr in fourth. The team saved ground and dueled in the stretch and was up in time to complete the 870-yard dash a nose ahead of the competition.
Despite the cloudy weather and 20 mph cross wind on the fast track, the five year old clocked in with a time of :46.317, earning a 91 speed index.
Juno Dat Timber took home the $10,169 winner’s share of the purse for owner/trainer/breeder Wesley Oulton. With this victory, he boosted his cumulative lifetime earnings to $62,655.
His race record is now 4(2)- 3(1)-1(0) from 20 outs. Juno Dat Timber’s only other stakes
victory was the 2014 Alberta Bred Futurity-RG3.
Oulton bred Juno Dat Timber
in Canada out of unraced Dashing Snowbound, a half-sister to graded stakes placed Chicks Starlite. Dashing Snowbound has produced 100% money earners from just two starters. Juno Dat Timber is her first stakes winner and top earner.
The gray gelding finished sec- ond in last year’s Will Rogers Distance Challenge at Will Rogers Downs and was a finalist in the 2016 AQHA Distance Challenge Championship-G1 at Los Alamitos Race Course, 2017 Remington Park Distance Challenge-G2 and
the 2016 Remington Park Distance Challenge-G3.
Awise Secret (No Secrets Here- Awise Lady) lept from the outside 5-gate on top, but the gray horse and jockey Carl Herbert were outnodded at the wire for second place money. Luigi Sale pulls double duty as owner and trainer. The horse won a Claiming race at Evergreen Park last year.
Fly Bye Cruise (Special Fly Bye- Eye Cruise) broke broke second from the 4-gate and dueled in the lead, but lost ground at the finish and settled for third for owner/trainer Tom Kenway. Martin Ortiz did the riding. The gelding was coming off a third place finish in a July 16 Allowance at Evergreen Park and two second place Allowance finishes at Lethbridge. Tequila Tuesday (Coronas Fast Dash-Keep On Keepin On) fin- ished fourth and was followed
by Asbigastexas (Birdzilla-Texas Windsong). Experimental Rocket was scratched.
