the Ajax Downs Derby on Aug. 13 belonged to owner Milena Kwiecien and trainer Jason Pascoe in more ways than one. Not only did the owner/trainer combination send out LS Prince, the winner of the 400-yard race, but the combo was also represented by the second and third place finishers in the $23,999 event.
Ridden by Josh Scott, LS Prince broke even from the 7-gate and jumped to second place by the first call. LS Prince dueled with Denali Teller and took the lead in a driving finish, winning by a nose.
Winning his third consecutive outing, LS Prince recorded the
initial stakes win of his career in the race. LS Prince stopped the timer in a fast :19.910, and both the top two finishers earned a speed index of 102. The win improved his record to 7-4(1)-0-0 and increased his bankroll to $19,879.
The two rivals, who raced as a separate entry despite having the same owner and trainer, turned the contest into a match race through the lane, racing stride for stride to the finish with LS Prince prevailing over Denali Teller Off (Louisiana Senator-Eye Like Beduino) who was ridden by Tony Philips.
Bred in Texas by Paris Wixon, LS Prince is out of the unraced Sixarun
mare Princess Sixarun, who is also the dam of graded stakes-placed Zoomalicious.
Maryland Magic (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Purley Un Social), also owned by Kwiecien and trained by Pascore, finished third under Ramiro Castillo.
Hickerson (Country Chicks Man-Easily Holland), Mrs First Lady (Mr Jess Perry-First Lady Amber), Coronas Chrome (Tac It Like A Man-Charmin Chief Corona), Kona Corona (Wave Carver-Bellas A Lady), Jewel Of An Episode (Pappasito-Eye Of An Episode) and Peves Freddy B (Streak And Dash-Ima Lazie Too) completed the order of finish. One Dashin Rose was scratched.
