Honor The Fast Man sailed to his first stakes victory in the $25,198 Adequan Evergreen Park
Derby Challenge at Evergreen Park in Grand Prairie, Canada.
The track was fast when Honor The Fast Man shot from the 4-post under Martin Ortiz.
Racing for owner/trainer/breeder Tom Kenway, Honor The Fast Man was second out of the gate, but led the field by a head at the first call. The bay gelding had a 1/2-length lead going into the stretch, and crossed the wire first by a neck holding off a charge from North Pine Special.
Honor The Fast Man and Ortiz clocked a time of :19.932 and earned a 91 speed index. The $12,347 winner’s share of the purse boosts the bay geld- ing’s lifetime earnings to $32,089.
His race record now stands at 4(1)-3(1)-3(1) from 10 career starts and includes a second place finish in the 2017 All Canadian Derby of Alberta, a third place finish in the
2016 Canada Quarter Horse Cup Futurity-RG3 and he was a finalist in the 2016 Alberta Bred Futurity-RG3, all contested at Lethbridge.
Kenway bred Honor The Fast Man out of stakes winner Buckle High, a half-sister to graded stakes winner and 2-time New Track Record setter Shez Jess Toxic. The mare won the 2003 running of the Manitoba Speed Horse Futurity
at Assiniboia Downs and placed third in the 2003 Bonnett/Brodon Futurity at Grand Prairie. Buckle High has produced 100% money earners from three starters. Honor The Fast Man is her first stakes win- ner and top earner.
North Pine Special (Oak Tree Special-Hawks Halo) and jockey
J. Botello made a strong effort, but came short for a second place fin- ish. The brown gelding is owned by Shylo Penrod & Teagan Goodsell and is trained by trainer Allen Goodsell. The gelding was coming off a third place finish in the June 25 All Canadian Derby at Lethbridge.
Poutn On The Wagon (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Poutnlori) made an impressive effort and made up enough ground to finish third. The brown gelding is owned by Pete Schoeler and is trained by Janice Sather. Scott Sterr did the riding. He was coming off an impressive 8-race undefeated streak.
Tac It Perry (Tac It Like A Man- Quickid Perry) was fourth and
was followed by Dashin By All (Bodacious Dash-All Lena), Scarface Judge (Judge Cash-Pardon), and Make Er Out (First Timber-Ima Jess A Streaker).
