Honor tHe FaSt Man

Honor The Fast Man notched the second stakes score of his career on Sept. 16, with a smart
victory in the Alberta Bred Derby at Northlands Park.
Honor The Fast Man finished sec- ond in his Sept. 1 trial to the Alberta Bred Derby, a neck behind fastest qualifier Poutn On The Wagon, for the second fastest qualifying time.
Martin Ortiz, who has ridden Honor The Fast Man in all previ- ous 10 starts, was in the saddle once again for the finals of the Alberta Bred Derby.
Honor The Fast Man broke alertly from his inside draw and grabbed a narrow lead soon after the start of the 330-yard dash. He fended off all challengers in the lane and, with a hard drive to the wire, held by a neck as the race favorite
to defeat Dashin By All and jockey Jose Rocha in :17.425. The final clocking earned an 80 speed index.
Honor The Fast Man, with this
latest win, improved his record to 5(2)- 3(1)-1(1) from 11 starts and boosted his bankroll to $43,435 for Tim Kenway, who bred, owns and trains the three-year-old. Honor The Perry won the Adequan Evergreen Park Derby Challenge two races back, scor- ing his first stakes victory by a neck.
Honor The Fast Man also finished second in this year’s All Canadian Derby of Alberta, third in the 2016 Canada Cup Futurity-RG3 and fifth in the 2016 Alberta Bred Futurity-RG3.
Honor The Fast Man is pro- duced from the stakes-winning Heza Fast Man mare Buckle High, who captured the 2003 Manitoba Speed Horse Futurity and finished
third in that year’s Bonnett/Brodon Futurity. Buckle High has pro- duced three foals, all starters and all money earners. Honor The Fast Man is her first stakes winner as well as her top money earner.
Alberta Bred Derby runner-up Dashin By All (Bodacious Dash- All Lena) dueled with the winner throughout and just missed for owner Thomas Pick and trainer Cory Rumsey.
Bringit Like Benny (Promised Class-Keep On Keepin On) and Juan Gonzalez flew late to finish third for owners Brenin and Jenna Rycroft and trainer Janice Sather.
Ivory Lady League (Ivory League- Rocky Mountain Lady), North Pine Special (Oak Tree Special-Hawks Halo), CR Azoominshezquick (Azoom-A Quick Glance) and Make Er Out (First Timber-Ima Jess A Streaker) completed the order of fin- ish. 2016 Canadian Champion Poutn On The Wagon was scratched.
