As And Js has been a bargain for owner/ trainer Leonardo Alcala. He bought the filly for $11,000 at the 2015 Heritage Place Yearling Sale. With her victory in the $80,500 Easy Date Stakes at Remington Park on April 28, As And Js raised her earn- ings to $375,404.
Breaking second under jockey Agustin Silva, As And Js engaged with Apollitical Scout throughout the 350
yards of the Easy Date Stakes,
which is named after the World Champion of 1975 who won the 1974 All American Futurity. The race was close all the way, as Apollitical Scout headed As And Js at one point. The two rivals reached the wire together, but the photo revealed that As And Js had prevailed by a head in :17.329 for a 96 speed index.
As a 2 year old in 2016, As
And Js won the Black Gold
350 Futurity-RG3 at Will Rogers Downs. Last
year she captured the Oklahoma Horsemen’s Association Mystery Derby, finished
second in the Retama Park Derby and ran third in the Remington Park Oklahoma Bred Derby-RG3. She most recently fin- ished fourth in the Decketta Stakes-G3 at Remington Park on March 21.
Her record is now 16-6(3)-5(1)-1(1). Five Puig Racing LLC bred As And Js
out of 2011 Oklahoma Futurity-G3 winner Adolph Tres Knockout. She has produced six winners from 11 starters, including stakes-placers Apollitical Knockout and The Only Knockout. The second dam, Oh Whatta Knockout, is also the sec- ond dam of South Valley/ JR Stable Futurity winner Gunnin For Doe and is a half-sister to millionaire and All American Futurity
winner Falling In Loveagain and stakes
winners Rojo Dancer, Cantcatcha Corona and Shelbys Surprise.
Rodrigo Vallejo rode Apollitical Scout (Apollitical Jess-Swingin Cartel) to second
for owner Paragon Farms LLC and trainer Jimmy Padgett. Apollitical Scout won the 2016 Ruidoso Juvenile Stakes and 2017 Remington Park Oklahoma Bred Derby.
Mia Kine (Dominyun-Mia Jones), ridden by G.R. Carter Jr., finished third for owner Elite Oilfield Services and trainer trainer Rolando Almaza. The 4-year-old filly has won three of 13 starts.
Effortless Chic Desi (Desirio-Effortless Jessie), HR Chatter Wagon (PYC Paint Your Wagon- Excessive Chatter TB), Dashing Sashay (One Dashing Eagle-Sashay Hot), VF Floosie (Foose- Wheely Quick) and Ting Ting Tac (Tac It Like A Man-Jess Because I Could) completed the order of finish. Mamasito Magic was scratched.
