JESS BEIN THE HERO

Jess Bein the Hero notched his sixth stakes victory in the $67,680 Grade 2 Bank of America Sam Hoston Challenge Championship at Sam Houston Race Park on April 21.
The black horse is getting better with age, notching four wins out of his last five stakes starts and posting consistently impressive times at multiple distances. Jess Bein The Hero broke from the
1-post on top in this race and leaped to an early 1 1/2-lengths lead under jockey Jorge Linares. The race favorite stretched his already comfortable lead to 2 1/2-lengths at the stretch and maintained that margin to the wire. The pair covered the 440-yard fast track in :21.678 and earned a 95 speed index.
Jess Bein The Hero took home the $31,133 win- ner’s share for owner Juan F. Martinez-Labastida and trainer Abelardo Flores, Jr., bringing his earnings to $144,086 and his record to 12-9(6)-2(2)-0.
Curtis Crenwelge bred Jess Bein The Hero out of graded stakes placed Jess Braggin. She has produced 100% money earners from eight starters, including stakes placed Braggin Bout My Zoom and Braggin N Dashin. Jess Bein The Hero is her first stakes win- ner and top money earner.
Under Rodrigo Vallejo, RC Me Leaving You (Coronas Leaving You-Sixy Bottom) came in second for owners Bennie and Terry Jeter and trainer James Padgett II.
Flyingforunclesam (Flyingwitheagles-Dreams For Lyndsie) and jockey Jose Martinez ran third for owner Kirk Goodfellow and trainer James Padgett II.
Tellereyematthebar (Teller Cartel-Eye Shine Special), Dash Quick Perry (Down N Dash-Quickid Perry), Careless Lightning (American Runaway- Corona Edge), Ipolito (Apollo TB-Seychelle) and Crying Eagle (One Famous Eagle-Fantastic Penny Sue) completed the order of finish. EOS Corona N Chicks and Wild Tycoon were scratched.

MARFILOUS

Marfilous scored the initial stakes victory of her career, proving best in the $20,000 Miss Sam Houston Stakes for 3 & older fillies & mares at Sam
Houston Race Park on April 14.
With Jorge Linares aboard for trainer Abelardo
Flores Jr., Marfilous broke alertly and raced in third position early in the 330-yard event. The 4-year- old filly powered through the lane and defeated Zenergetic by a nose in a head-bobbing finish with One Sweet Picky another neck back in third.
Winning for the second time this season, Marfilous stopped the timer in a lively :16.604, earn- ing a career-best 103 speed index.
Owned by Ruben Garcia Montemayor, Marfilous improved her record to 14-6-0-1 and the $12,000 winner’s share boosted her bankroll to $53,869.
The filly was also a finalist in the 2016 Firecracker Futurity-G2 & Harrah’s Entertainment Futurity-G3 as a freshman.
Bobby Cox bred Marfilous out of unraced Verrsace. She has produced 100% money earners from two starters, including Shades Of Gray, a final- ist in the 2017 TQHA Sires’ Cup Futurity-RG3 and the Harrah’s Entertainment Futurity-G3. Marfilous is her first stakes winner and top money earner.
Runner-up Zenergetic (Dominyun-Zenergy), owned by the Zenergetic Group was second under Luis Vivanco for trainer Trey Ellis.
One Sweet Picky (One Sweet Jess-Sticky N Picky) gained ground for third under Noe Suarez for owner Ricardo Barrera and trainer Rodolfo Sanchez.
Carris Cartel (The Louisiana Cartel-Shesa Wicked Gypsy), SR Esmeralda (Red Storm Cat-Lets Get Fiscal), Mos Courage (Captain Courage-Good Ole Memories), DM Maryanna (The Louisiana Cartel- Mary La Jolla) and Tacky Lil Groundhog (Tac It Like a Man-Im Not Hillary) completed the order of finish. Brillianz and Fancy Mamacita were scratched.
Sam Houston Juvenile
JET BLACK KING

Jet Black King remains undefeated after his first stakes victory in the $44,060 Sam Houston Juvenile on April 28. The field was comprised of
2 year olds that competed in the trials for the Sam Houston Futurity, but did not qualify in the top 10. With Eleazar Hernandez aboard, Jet Black King broke third in the 330-yard Juvenile, quick from the inside gate and grabbed the lead. At one point the geld- ing had a 1/2-length advantage and he held off Elite Connection at the wire to win by a neck in :16.968. Juan Saucedo trains Jet Black King for owner Filimon Saucedo. Jet Black King began his racing career in his trial for the Sam Houston Futurity, winning by a neck. He then captured his Old South Futurity trial at Delta Downs before returning to Sam Houston for the Juvenile. The gelding now has total earnings of $18,618.
R.K. McGehee bred Jet Black King out of Billyjeanthequeen, winner of the 2004 Jade Cover Handicap. She has produced 100% winners from five starters, including top money earner Favorite Jeans. Jet Black King is her first stakes winner.
Elite Connection (Dash Master Jess-Chicks Fleye), third in her trial, finished second in the Juvenile, with Jesse Levario in the irons. Rolando Almanza trains the filly for owners Sergio Pena and Cesar Rosales.
Jose Martinez piloted Dashingwithnorate (High Rate Of Return-Ottyes Dashing Gal) to third for owner Jesse Hernandez and trainer Angel Sanchez. Dashingwithnorate won his trial in his initial start.
